Richard Gere, 70, and wife Alejandra Silva, 37, welcome their second child together... and it's a boy!
Richard Gere, 70, and Alejandra Silva, 37, have welcomed their second child together on Wednesday, April 22.
The news was confirmed by HELLO!'s sister publication, HOLA! as the couple celebrates the new addition - a baby boy - to their growing family in a ranch on Pound Ridge, just outside New York. The couple already is parents to two-year-old Alexander, who was born in February 2018.
It was first reported that the couple was expecting a second child in November 2019. Preferring to keep their personal lives private, the pair never confirmed that they were pregnant for the second time. At the time HOLA! reported that Silva was already three months into her second pregnancy.
Both Gere and Silva have children from previous marriages. While the former shares Homer James Jigem, 20, with ex-wife Carey Lowell, the latter has seven-year-old Albert with ex-husband Govind Friedland.
The couple first announced the good news of their first pregnancy to the world only after the Dalai Lama had personally blessed their baby bump. "Getting blessings for our precious to come... We couldn't announce it before telling HH Dalai Lama," Alejandra said, posting a picture of the special moment.
Richard and Alejandra tied the knot in April 2018, in a civil partnership ceremony in Spain. Later, they threw an Indian-inspired wedding reception for their friends and loved ones back at the actor's ranch outside New York City.
"I feel like I'm in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world", Alejandra said at the time, despite their substantial age gap. "He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I've ever met. What can I say? I'm so in love! How would you feel if each morning you were asked: 'What would make you happy today?' Not a day goes by that he doesn't mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky."
Her sentiment was echoed by Richard, who said that he had to repeatedly send his wife flowers before she agreed to go out on a date with him.
"I'm the happiest man in the universe. How could I not be? I'm married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who's fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who's a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!" he said.
Continuing to gush about his new wife, Gere said, "Alejandra meditates, she's a vegetarian, a great mother, has the touch of an angel... and she's also Spanish: the land of kings and queens, of Cervantes and Buñuel... You can't get any better than that."
Gere and Silva crossed paths when he came to stay at Silva's family-owned hotel in Positano in 2014. After she fell head-over-heels in love with Gere, she converted to Buddhism and moved to New York. Speaking about how the couple met each other for the first time, Silva shared that it was almost love-at-first-sight for the couple. "A friend introduced us, we looked at each other and felt a very strong connection. We couldn't stop looking at each other all night, and since then we haven't been apart," she shared.
Silva is Gere's third wife; he was previously married to supermodel Cindy Crawford and Carey Lowell. He was married to Crawford from 1991 to 1995, after which he married Lowell in 2002 only to get a contentious divorce which got finalized in 2015, even though the couple separated in 2013.
