Ashley Darby and Michael Darby's marriage always left 'Real Housewives of Potomac' fans puzzled. The Bravo show's fans had a hard time trying to understand why the usually outspoken and bold housewife was putting up with her husband's constant infidelity, and the frequent arguments owing to their vast age difference. Though fans kept constantly speculating that the former beauty queen would walk out on Michael soon, Ashley kept surprising everybody with her constant efforts to strengthen their marriage.

So, when the 'RHOP' star confirmed that she and Michael had decided to separate, needless to say, the internet was buzzing with excitement over the news. The housewife explained in a statement that there were several factors that led to their decision to separate, but assured that the couple would continue to co-parent their two beautiful sons. In an exclusive statement to The Daily Dish, Ashley shared, "Almost eight years ago, when Michael and I said ‘I do,’ we anticipated sharing every single day together from that moment forward. Unfortunately, that is not our current reality. We have decided to separate. We are aware that there will be many speculative views as to why we have made this decision. People will be quick to assume that the causes were too much intrusion by reality TV into the most personal parts of our lives, age gap issues, cultural problems, or child-rearing differences. Pieces of all these may have affected our pure love for each other, but no one reason is the root cause of our mutual decision to go our separate ways," she said.

"We are now both at very different stages in our lives and have different goals for our futures. We both want the other to achieve true happiness and fulfillment and feel that we cannot do this together. While our romantic bond is broken, we will always love and respect each other. We also know that true happiness can only be achieved by continuing to work together and putting our hearts and souls into raising our two beautiful boys, Dean and Dylan. The moment the internet got the whiff of the news they immediately pointed out how Ashley was divorcing her husband exactly around the time that their prenup agreement stated that she would be getting half of his assets in case of a divorce. The housewife revealed on an earlier episode of 'RHOP' that Michael and she extended the three-year contract on their prenup agreement to five years. "Michael and I had a pre-nuptial agreement that expired after five years of marriage. Now, in the event of a divorce, I will receive 50% of our assets," she stated on the show. The couple got married in 2014, and their initial agreement ended in 2017, following which it was further extended to five years, i.e., 2022. The internet was amused with the timing of their separation announcement.
