Rhea Perlman turns 75! Actress enjoys quiet life with pet dog Zorro after separating from Danny DeVito
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Rhea Perlman recently crossed a milestone birthday. The actress turned 75 on March 31. Though she’s not very active on social media, some of her fans wished her anyway on her Instagram page, with messages, like “Happy Birthday God bless you,” and “Happy 75th Birthday Rhea”.
As per reports, Perlman had a great career that saw her showing off her acting skills in films like, ‘Matilda,’ ‘Sunset Park,’ and ‘Marvelous and the Black Hole’. She also worked in television shows, like ‘The Mindy Project’ and ‘Kirstie’. But as per reports, she believes ‘Cheers’ to be her career’s best role.

‘It was the best job in the world’
She told PEOPLE last year, “It was huge. And I wouldn't have had any of the career that I — well, who knows what I would've had? Nobody knows what doesn't happen, but it was the best job in the world.” The Emmy Award winner went on to share that a time came when she and her co-stars had that conversation, “Should we do another year? It's been 11 years?”
She revealed that at the time, “George [Wendt] says, 'If someone gives you a present every year, you're not not going to take it the next year? Why not?' So, we took it for as long as they gave it.” But Perlman is not anywhere close to her ‘Cheers’ character Carla Tortelli, who was a tough bird. She reportedly once shared, “Everyone’s surprised when they meet me. I guess it’s because I’ve played tough cookies for so long…. It’s what I do best. I’m not sure I could pull off a genteel Southern belle.”
‘I asked my friend if he had a girlfriend’
Perlman is not tough like her characters but she is pretty straightforward. She was the one who approached Danny DeVito, who is now her husband of more than four decades. She first saw him when she went to watch a play ‘The Shrinking Bride’ in which DeVito was starring.
Perlman told The New York Post in 2018, “I had to meet him immediately. I asked my friend if he had a girlfriend and she said no. I came on to him big time!” Eventually, in January 1982, the two tied the knot and welcomed three children together – Lucy DeVito, Grace Fan DeVito, and Jake DeVito.
‘We can do things together, we can do things separately’
But in 2012, they parted their separate ways only to come back together in March 2013. But in 2017, the pair decided to part ways for good. Since then, they have been living separately. The two have not divorced each other yet.
She told PEOPLE, “It’s probably worked out for the best. Sometimes I wish we were still together because those were the glory days, but these are other kinds of glory days.” The actress also added, “We're still separated, but we see each other often, and we're still a family. We can do things together, we can do things separately."
“I'm really, really glad that Danny and I were able to navigate some rough days to be able to have this different kind of relationship. I think it's pretty rare, but we agree on so many things that it makes sense.”
Meanwhile, it has been said that Perlman now peacefully lives at her beach house in LA with her her dog, Zorro. The veteran star is also into gardening lately and in 2016, she shared a photo of her plants with a caption that said, “A good time for regrowth #hope.”
