'Retaliation': Meet Orlando Bloom, Janet Montgomery, Charlie Creed-Miles and the cast of the upcoming drama
Ludwig Shammasian and Paul Shammasian’s upcoming film ‘Retaliation’ tells the story of an adult victim of childhood sexual abuse. The film that premiered at the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival under the title ‘Romans’ follows Malky, played by Orlando Bloom. Malky is an angry demolition worker who is haunted by his past and thoughts of revenge.
In the film’s trailer, we see Malky’s rage as he loses his temper with his aged mother, beats several people up on several occasions, and finally, stabs his own hand with a pair of scissors. During a conversation, a confessional, between Malky and a priest, the former says, “I have to hurt someone. I have to hurt someone severely.” When the priest asks, “What are you here for?” Malky’s response is bone-chilling. “Revenge,” says Malky.
The film about the sensitive topic of child sexual abuse committed by clergymen features a stellar cast. Let’s take a look at them:
Orlando Bloom as Malky
The 43-year-old British actor requires little introduction. Bloom is globally famous for his role as Legolas the elf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film series, as well as ‘The Hobbit’ film series, and also his performance as Will Turner in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film series. His other notable roles include that of Paris in ‘Troy’, Balian de Ibelin in ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, and the Duke of Buckingham in ‘The Three Musketeers’.
Bloom began dating American singer Katy Perry in early 2016. While the couple confirmed in February 2017 that they had reached splitsville, they, however, resumed their relationship a year later and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. Earlier this year, in March 2020, the couple revealed that they are expecting their first child together, a daughter.
In an interview, Bloom said, “Aside from the giant belly, you wouldn't know [she's pregnant]. She's a force of nature, obviously, as we all know, as everyone knows. But it's been really impressive. There's no complaining. She's just all about it. It's pretty awe-inspiring to see the way she handles herself at this time. It's just business as usual.” Bloom is already a father to a nine-year-old son, Flynn.
Janet Montgomery as Emma
The 34-year-old British film and TV actor is perhaps most well-known for her role as Ames in the television series ‘Human Target’. Most recently, she has received acclaim for her role as Lauren Bloom on the television series ‘New Amsterdam’. In films, her notable titles include ‘The Hills Run Red’, ‘Black Swan’, ‘The Space Between Us’, and more.
Montgomery is a trained dancer from the Stella Mann College of Performing Arts in Bedford. However, instead of going ahead with a career in dance, she chose acting. One of her first acting jobs was a guest star role on the critically-acclaimed UK teen drama series, ‘Skins’. Upon moving to Los Angeles in 2009, Montgomery was cast in ‘The Hills Run Red’.
She has been in a relationship with Joe Fox since November 2017. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2019.
Charlie Creed-Miles as Paul
The 48-year-old British actor and musician is best known for his roles in films like ‘100 Streets’, ‘Hereafter’, ‘King Arthur’, ‘The Fifth Element’, and more. On television, he’s worked in shows like ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Injustice’, ‘Criminal Justice’, and ‘Endeavour’, among others.
Creed-Miles and his ex-wife Samantha Morton have a daughter Esme Creed-Miles, who is also an actor. Esme was most recently seen in the Amazon Prime Video series ‘Hanna’.
Alex Ferns as Jo
The 51-year-old Scottish actor is best known for his role as Trevor Morgan on the British soap ‘EastEnders’. He is also known for his role as Rick Harper in the BBC Scotland soap opera, ‘River City’. Most recently, Ferns appeared in the HBO-Sky miniseries ‘Chernobyl’.
Ferns lived in South Africa for 17 years. He studied drama at the University of Cape Town. In fact, he even served for two years in the South African Defence Force -- 1988 and 1989 -- as a Gunner in the 2nd Special Services Battalion.
Ferns has been married to Jennifer Woodburne since 1996. They have two children. He is, per IMDb, one of seven ‘EastEnders’ actors to have won the Best Newcomer Award at the British Soap Awards.
