Freeform's 'Siren' has provided us with plenty of reasons to cherish fantasies surrounding the mysterious existence of mermaids in the realm of television which has enough already on conventional superheroes and villains.

Besides presenting us with mermaids, whose characters are most skillfully brought to life by the highly talented cast of characters, the series also explores other intriguing life forms such as the merpeople.

While their origin plays a key role in defining the existence of mermaids, the presence of merpeople among humans and mermaids makes the series further intriguing.

'Siren' star Rena Owen, in an exclusive interview with MEA Worldwide (MEAWW), shared about her role as a hybrid, the introduction of yet another mermaid who is going to turn the lives of the people of Bristol Cove upside down, and the highlight of the season, Ryn's baby.

Reflecting on her relationship with Ben, Ryn and Maddie  in Season 3, Rena, who plays the character of Helen Hawkins, said, "We'll always be involved in the main trio."

Elaborating on what awaits fans in the next season, she shared, "As the trailer reveals there's a new top-level predator who comes to town and, as Helen says in the trailer, a war is coming. A lot of things go down in Bristol Cove, let's put it that way."

As far as her backstory as a hybrid is concerned, she said, "The main storyline of the next season is Ryn's baby and it couldn't have happened without the hybrid storyline." She added, "So Season 3 is about the new top-level predator mermaid and this moment, the mermaid war."

Meanwhile, talking about the preparation for her eccentric role, she explained, "I did a lot of research in terms of manmade history and the origins of mermaids. I was really pleasantly surprised to discover that there's a whole lot of mermaid hope around the world."

"I just needed to be my unique self because what I have is a very unique and sound character. She's somebody that had always been on the outside and someone that has always been very private and held this kind of secret that she was part mermaid for a very long time."

The trailer for Season 3 of 'Siren’ also sees Helen Hwakins underwater, which required Rena to undergo tank training. She says, playing Helen has been a fun experience overall for "She's very knowledgeable. She's got a lot of wisdom, and she's very funny. She's got a good thing for humor."

When asked what sets ‘Siren’ apart from the other fantasies we’ve seen on television, Rena said, "The show explores real-life dynamic. Like environmental issues and trying to save species from going extinct."

"I think it really works because we humanize the show, and they are just identifiable characters," Rena added while talking about the response the series has garnered from fans.

'Siren' Season 3 airs on April 2 on Freeform.
