In this week's episode, we see Cutis help out a couple who are clearly way in over their head. Maurice Turner and Blake Milnes are engaged and have brought themselves a stunning craftsman home that unfortunately comes with a ridiculously amount of water damage, a bedroom they've converted a bathroom and a bathroom they've ripped out.
It's safe to say, the couple's estimated 6 to 12 months of renovations has turned into an 18-month long nightmare for the two. That's where Curtis steps in to pick up where they left out and reverse the aftermath of a DIY project gone terribly wrong.
How much did the house cost?
The house itself set Turner and Milnes back by $30,000, although that was possibly the least the couple spent on this project. During the process of their own renovations, they ended up shelling out another $100,000 dollars. Seeing that they added new cabinets, stripped flooring and even converted a bedroom into a shower and a bathroom into a vanity, it doesn't come as a surprise that their bill was that high.
In fact, they spent around $52,000 on windows alone. However, Curtis did point out that it was a good investment, seeing that it helped maintain the stunning outer facade of the house. Had they gone with a $10,000 option instead, it wouldn't have lasted long and would've looked cheap too.
What budget was Curtis working with?
Seeing that the couple spent so much money already, their final budget for Curtis was $50,000. Curtis thought that was plenty to work with until she began breaking it down logistically. It's here she realized that they'll be cutting it close. Curtis broke down the $50k in order to accommodate all the work she needed to do. She allowed $15,000 for flooring, seeing that the kitchen especially needed a lot of work.
Plumbing and painting took up $5,000, each. Electrical came in at around $10,000. And lastly, the kitchen was another $15,000. With barely any margin to spare, Curtis was definitely cutting it close, but as always, she did a phenomenal job, leaving the couple with a stunning home to start their married life in!
