'Record of Youth' Episode 5: Hye-jun shocks Jeong-ah, confesses to her that he thinks he likes her
'Record of Youth' Episode 5 gives Sa Hye-jun (Park Bo-gum) a taste of success, of victory as he begins to shoot on his first film in which he plays the role of a rich family's rogue son. He prepares to be a part of the film along with Hae-hyo who had also got the role in the film after his mother bought online followers for Hae-hyo. However, since the young man is not aware of all the things that his mother has undertaken, he is working guilt-free around Hye-jun. He is also the one to get Jeong-ah to work with him and Hye-jun on the film.
While Hye-jun begins to prepare for his role, his family is going through conflict as well, as Hye-jun's brother and the elder son in the family has decided to move out of the family house in hopes of finding freedom and some fun. However, Hye-jun's mother believes that her elder son is not capable of spending wisely and so, she is strongly against it. The family begins with a family meeting to sort this issue out, however, they instead circumvent this entire thing and the attention falls on Hye-jun again. He is blamed for rebelling against his brother too, just because he had asked for the privacy of being able to stay in a room.
He is used by his brother to prove that the family needs more space, and beyond this, he is also used by his brother to hurt his grandfather as well. So he argues, and quite eloquently at that. His grandfather too ends up taking a stand against how inconsiderate his family has been while discussing his or his characteristics that have been passed on to the kids in the next generation. In fact, Hye-jun's father's inconsiderate and intolerable behavior is what pushes Hye-jun's grandfather to work on being a senior model more sincerely. Once that is resolved, it is time for Hye-jun to begin preparing for the shoot and he does this with a dedication and passion that has in a way chained him to his dream of being an actor.
The day arrives, and Hye-jun's dream begins to take shape and quite brilliantly too. His improvisations based on the character receive praise from the director and he also sees how well his character is perceived in the film. His closest friend Hae-hyo also realizes that his friend has a talent that he cannot hope to compare to, and so, he decides to be happy with the fact that Jeong-ah believes in his capability. It also seems as if Hae-hyo has begun to have feelings for Jeong-ah as well, however, he is already aware of the fact that she is Hye-jun's fan and not his. Does he hope that she will remain just a fan of Hye-jun's and not have deeper feelings for him?
While Hae-hyo is struggling with this mixed feeling, Jeong-ah is excited to see Hye-jun do something that he loves. It is amid this that we see Hye-jun get hurt while shooting an action scene and Jeong-ah rushes to care for him. It is at this time that the two of them get caught in rain, again, and Jeong-ah voices out how odd this is. At this moment, as rain falls heavily, Hye-jun realizes that he likes her and the way he feels at the moment has him frozen in that spot. So he tells Jeong-ah that at the moment, he feels like he will burst out, but he is also feeling conflicted about what he wants to say. He is unsure if it should be said, or not. So Jeong-ah tells him that he shouldn't say it at all, if he is so unsure, but he blurts it out anyway. He blurts out that he thinks he likes her and shocks Jeong-ah. Will she accept his confession and agree to date him?
'Record of Youth' originally airs on tvN on Mondays and Tuesdays in South Korea and can be streamed on Netflix in the US.
