‘The Bear’ gets disappointing update ahead of Season 5 but we frankly saw it coming
FX's award-winning series 'The Bear' will throw in the towel after five seasons, the show's star Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed on March 4. Created by Christopher Storer, 'The Bear' premiered on June 23, 2022, to rave reviews. However, after four seasons, the show's future seemed uncertain until Curtis made the announcement. On February 18, she shared an Instagram post with co-star Abby Elliott, who plays her daughter Natalie, on the show. The caption read, "Finished Strong! Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with. Got to finish it out with my baby Berzatto bear."
The post left fans wondering whether 'The Bear' would end its run after Season 5, as FX had not officially made an announcement about the show's future. After weeks of speculation, Curtis confirmed the news on March 4, while speaking to Access Hollywood's correspondent Emily Orozco. She said, "Everybody’s confirmed the show is ending. I don’t understand why that’s such a [big deal]. Unless I’m gonna get a call from all the people saying, ‘You just told [everyone],’ I think everybody understood that it was the last season of the show."
The news isn't entirely surprising, as questions about the show's future have been circulating for a while. The show's lead star, Jeremy Allen White, who plays chef Carmy Berzatto, previously revealed that Storer had originally planned the series as a four-season arc. Furthermore, the fourth season seemed to tie up all the loose ends and wrap up the story for good. In the season finale, titled 'Goodbye,' Carmy hands over the reins of the restaurant to his loyal partner, Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), and walks away from the culinary business to find himself outside the kitchen. 'The Bear' is currently filming Season 5 in and around Chicago, where the story is set, and fans are eager to see what fate has in store for the much-loved protagonist. It will drop later this year, most likely in June, like past seasons of the show.
In the show, 67-year-old Curtis plays Donna Berzatto, the addiction-riddled mother of Carmy and Natalie. In 2024, she won an Emmy award for 'Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series' for her performance in the show. The show's talented cast also includes Ebon Moss-Bachrach as 'Richie' Jerimovich, Liza Colón-Zayas as Tina Marrero, Lionel Boyce as Marcus Brooks, Matty Matheson as Neil Fak, and Edwin Lee Gibson as Ebraheim, among others. While waiting for Season 5, viewers can catch up on the last four seasons of 'The Bear' on Hulu.
