Officials said that the accident took place and two staircases fell while McEntire, her boyfriend Rex Linn, and some other team members were on the second floor of the building, which is under renovation. "The historic staircase between the second and third story collapsed, and when it did it collapsed on the stairway going from the second to first floor," Atoka Emergency Management director Travis Mullins told NBC affiliate KTEN. Without the assistance of the firefighters, it would have been nearly impossible for seven people trapped inside the building, which is over 100 years old, to safely and successfully get out.

“We were just touring the building and the stairwell was weak. It seemed weak, but we did not realize how weak it was until several people had gone down it. And then we heard the crash and saw the stairs fall,” Coby Scherrill, a member of Reba’s team, told News12.
