'Raat Akeli Hai': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Netflix's Indian murder mystery

Netflix is expanding its Indian content with eight new titles, including six features and two series. The Hindi-language murder mystery 'Raat Akeli Hai' is one of these deals. The suspenseful plotline and trailer assure that the movie featuring Bollywood stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in lead roles is going to pack a punch. 

Here is everything you need to know about the movie ahead of its release on Netflix later this week.

'Raat Akeli Hai' premieres on Netflix on July 31, 2020.

Plot

According to the official synopsis of 'Raat Akeli Hai', the movie tells the story of "a high profile murder in a small town India that sends a tough yet narrow-minded cop on a twisted investigation, as he navigates deeper into the dark past and toxic patriarchy of the victim's family, having to battle the inherent patriarchy within himself in the process."

Siddiqui stars as the detective who is not going to stop at anything till he nabs the murderer. The actor, who is best known for gritty, raw performances, gained international recognition for his work in 'Black Friday', 'Gangs of Wasseypur', 'Raman Raghav 2.0'.

His performance in the Emmy nominated Netflix series, 'Sacred Games' is highly celebrated as well, which was awarded the highest honorary, The Lesley Ho Asian Film Talent Award at the prestigious Singapore International Film Festival.

Apte stars as Radha, one of the suspects in the murder. The actress is best known for her performances in the Hindi-language movies 'Badlapur', 'Hunterrr', and 'Manjhi - The Mountain Man', in which she starred opposite Siddiqui. 

The Indian actress is a leading lady in independent cinema starring in projects such as 'Phobia' and 'Parched' that also earned her international recognition. Apart from that, she has worked in several Netflix productions such as 'Lust Stories', 'Sacred Games' (also alongside Siddiqui), 'Ghoul'.  

Alongside the two, 'Raat Akeli Hai' also stars Shweta Tripathi as Karuna Singh, Tigmanshu Dhulia as SSP Lalji Shukla, Shivani Raghuvanshi as Vasudha Singh and Nishant Dahiya as Vikram Singh, apart from  Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire and Aditya Srivastava in supporting roles.
