'Psych 2: Lassie Come Home': Timothy Omundson returns as Lassiter, emotional fans 'inspired' by performance

If 'Psych The Movie' was written as an homage to the fans, 'Psych 2: Lassie Come Home' was written as an homage to Omundson and his character

When Timothy Omundson -- who played Carlton Lassiter on USA network's comedy procedural drama series 'Psych' -- suffered a stroke just before filming was set to commence for 'Psych The Movie', creator Steve Franks and star James Roday -- who plays Shawn Spencer  -- had to rewrite the script for the film and relocate it to San Francisco to explain Lassiter's absence. However, the writers manage to include Omundson in one scene where Shawn's love interest and Lassiter's police partner, Juliet "Jules" O'Hara (Maggie Lawson) video called him for advice.

Suffice to say, we were all disappointed that we did not get to see Omundson and were hoping for his speedy recovery. When the second movie was announced, fans were excited that Lassiter would be back. If 'Psych The Movie' was written as an homage to fans, 'Psych 2: Lassie Come Home' was written as an homage to Omundson and his character. The second movie also reflected Omundson's real-life stroke in the character -- and at one point when Jules tells Lassie, "You are the strongest person I know, and I am watching you get stronger every single day, and I love you, and I don’t know what I would do without you," it actually feels like the writers are saying it to Lassiter.

In the movie, Lassiter is recuperating at a clinic after being shot and suffering a stroke. For the most part, the movie was a testament to the character and to Omundson and shows just how much both are adored by fans, who were proud of the character's return and found it inspiring.

A viewer opined, "@Omundson @PsychPeacock what a beautiful ending that brought me to tears. So great to see you back with the gang! Now for Psych 3!!!"

A fan shared, "Just watched Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, I cried, I laughed and I LOVED IT! So well written and acted. So good to see Lassie/Timothy and everyone!" Another tweeted, "@Omundson Watched Psych 2 and I was inspired by your performance. May you continue to live life to the fullest. God bless you." A fan opined, "@Omundson just finished Psych 2: Lassie Come Home and man I gotta say you are amazing. Stay strong and you've come so far :) Best to you and all of yours, my friend." Another wrote, "@Omundson Thank you for the Psych Movie. It was so great to see you and Lassiter come home and your recovery has been really inspiring."
