MOSCOW, IDAHO: There has been an update in the sensational quadruple murders of the four University of Idaho students. Prosecutors reportedly filed a new motion in the case about a separate "confidential" investigation that could affect Bryan Kohberger's trial.
Xana Kernodle, 20, Ethan Chapin, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21 were stabbed to death in their off-campus home on November 13, 2022. Prosecutors reportedly announced that they were handing over the "Brady/Giglio" material related to an officer investigating the Idaho murders.

What is Brady/Giglio material?
Giglio material can be defined as "any evidence, past or present, that could impeach the credibility of a witness. The witness in this case is an officer who was working on the Kohberger case." Brady's material is "any evidence that could prove that the defendant is not guilty," as per Fox News. The relevant material is "in the form of a confidential internal affairs investigation" related to the office.
Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor and president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, explained what exactly could be the relevant material in this case. She said, "It could be anything. It could be, beating his wife. It could be driving fast and when he's pulled over, pulling out his badge when he shouldn't. It could be smoking weed."
The terms Brady/ Giglio is obtained from the Brady v. Maryland and Giglio v. United States case. This case held that the prosecution's suppression of evidence violated the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court also held that according to the Maryland state law, the confession would not exonerate Brady, so a remand only for reconsidering his punishment was proper, as per Oyez.org.
What are the claims in the motion?
The motion states, "The state has become aware of potential Brady/Giglio material related to one of the officers involved in the above-referenced case. That material, in the form of a confidential internal affairs investigation, is hereby submitted in camera to the court. The State intends to disclose this information to the defendant's counsel," prosecutors said. Rahmani said, "In the prosecution's case, you're thinking ahead, ‘OK, I got a strong case. You know what, I'm just going to disclose everything because I don't want an appellate issue down the road." However, it is still unclear what evidence was not used in the trial and whether it would drastically change the lead up to trial.
'This Case is wild'
Netizens had different guesses on what could have been the missing evidence or wrong claim. A user asked, "So does that mean one of the cops was involved in some way." Another added, "It’s a Brady disclosure. So what’s the prosecution failing or hiding from the defence? This case is wild…" A user noted, "Hopefully this investigation leads to a favorable outcome for prosecution. But this doesn’t feel like a good sign at this point." "Probably in trouble for leaking information," added a user. "What exactly does this mean? I sure hope one of the officers hasn’t compromised this case against BK.," wrote a user. "Interesting I always though one of the police officers who went to the house to talk to Katie RIP then quit and was sharing personal information about the girls w/ BK," added another. "Misleading the court about dna would be my guess," noted another.

Hopefully this investigation leads to a favorable outcome for prosecution. But this doesn’t feel like a good sign at this point.
