MOSCOW, IDAHO: Days before his arrest on December 30, 2022, Bryan Kohberger was being watched by the FBI but there came a point when officers were reportedly not able to detect him for hours. It has been said that after cops suspected that the 28-year-old was involved in the November 13, 2022, murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, they began to monitor him.

However, on December 13, 2022, a month after the murders of the four youngsters, when Kohberger took off in his white Hyundai Elantra from the parking of his apartment in Washington’s Pullman to go on a cross-country drive with his father, cops lost track of him, The Sun reported, citing Air Mail’s ‘The Eyes of a Killer: Part Two’. At the time, both the Kohberger and his father were reportedly heading to Chestnuthill Township, Pennsylvania, where their family home was.

What was Bryan Kohberger doing in Colorado?

The report stated that officers struggled for “several alarming hours – or more” to find his location as he “seemingly vanished”. However, it was only in Loma, Colorado, Kohberger's car came under the police’s radar. Loma is said to be nearly 900 miles from Pullman.

Though the precise time or duration of his "disappearance" have not been revealed, it takes around 15 hours by road from Pullman to Loma. Also, the route taken by the father-son duo was reportedly not the usual one but Kohberger allegedly insisted on it, using possible “wintry conditions” to change their course.

Bryan Kohberger was stopped by traffic cops

From Colorado, cops were able to watch his movement but a little bit of tension arose when Kohberger was stopped by traffic cops twice for driving very close to another vehicle. FBI agents were reportedly concerned as the “possibilities were too dangerous” on how he would react, but things went smoothly.

Once at his family home, Kohberger was under surveillance 24/7, and one night when he threw away the trash in the neighbor’s garbage bin. Officers immediately took it into their custody to run a match of the DNA found on it with the knife sheath discovered at the victims’ home. At the end of December 2022, investigators arrested him from his parents’ house and charged him with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary.

Bryan Kohberger has his family's support

Following his dramatic arrest, the Kohbergers issued a statement on January 1, that read, “First and foremost, we care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children. There are no words that can adequately express the sadness we feel, and we pray each day for them. We will continue to let the legal process unfold, and as a family, we will love and support our son and brother.”

It added, “We have fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies in an attempt to seek the truth and promote his presumption of innocence rather than judge unknown facts and make erroneous assumptions. We respect privacy in this matter as our family and the families suffering loss can move forward through the legal process.”
