'White colonizer ideology': Prince William slammed for saying war is 'common in Africa and Asia'
Prince William may have spoken too rashly while visiting a Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London to meet with volunteers on March 9. The British royal remarked war is "very alien to see" in Europe, but it is more common in Africa and Asia, in an attempt to demonstrate his sympathy for the people of Ukraine, which is now under Russian bombardment. He even served trays of handmade brownies and granola bars with his wife Kate Middleton.
Prince William has been chastised for this tasteless remark about the Ukraine conflict. "Britons were more used to seeing conflict in Africa and Asia," Prince William observed, adding, "It's very alien to see this in Europe. We are all behind you." He also expressed his desire to help more, noting, "We feel so useless."

The Duke of Cambridge also said that his three children with Kate, Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3, had been inquiring about the conflict. He told royal reporter Rebecca, "Ours have been coming home asking all about it. They are obviously talking about it with their friends at school." When discussing the conflict in Ukraine, he stated that he had been "careful" with his statements.
Prince William has received criticism for a comment that linked wars in Africa and Asia to wars in Europe, despite his cautious wording. It was deemed as "ignorant" by some, and "White colonizer ideology" by others. Prince William was rumored to be one of the royals who had commented about is nephew Archie's skin color and that too made an appearance in many tweets condemning his comment. Many Twitter users have also expressed their thoughts, with one tweet reading: "Prince William's comments regarding Africa & Asia are truly atrocious. You wonder if people like him are that uneducated or if this is all intentional. It's jarring that someone actually thinks Europeans are civilized & superior & the rest of us are trash."

Another tweet read, "Prince William's comments about Africa are so ridiculously ignorant that he is not doing himself any favors of dodging those rumors that he's the one in the royal family who asked about Archie's skin color."

Another individual made a caustic remark and wrote, "Unsurprised to see backlash against Prince William's ignorant remark (reported by @PA). Europe has seen some of the bloodiest conflict in the past two centuries—Balkans, Yugoslavia, Germany and Kosovo to name a few. But sure, let's normalise war and death in Africa and Asia." There were more who slammed the future king: Prince William sounds like a lying ass colonizer. This is beyond stupid." One social media user wrote: " Prince William’s comments are deeply offensive. He must apologise. This future King of England parrots racist rhetoric shamelessly. His caucacity after public backlash at Western media humanising White pain while dehumanising Black/Brown pain in #UkraineWar is a slap to our faces."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had already shown their support for Ukraine. In a statement issued on Twitter, they stated, "In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelenskyy and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine's future. Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine's people as they bravely fight for that future (Ukrainian flag emoji) W and C (sic)."
