Prince Philip flirted ‘all the time’ with Queen Elizabeth II and made her giggle with his ‘inappropriate’ jokes

We can only learn to love by loving... Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip did that for over 70 years of marriage. If royal expert Robert Jobson's words are to be believed, Prince Philip wanted to marry the Queen from the age of 18, even before he fell in love with her. In a recent interview with True Royalty TV's show 'The Royal Beat', Jobson noted that the Duke of Edinburgh used to frequently flirt with the Queen and make her giggle at royal events.

The couple met when the Queen was just 13 years old — at the wedding of his cousin, Princess Marina of Greece — after which he sent letters to her throughout her teenage years. The two were together until April 9, 2021, as the Duke passed away aged 99.

In 1946, the two became secretly engaged, without the permission of the King. A year later, in 1947, King George VI blessed the couple's decision and they married in the month of November. The Duke and then-future Queen made their decision to marry public on July 9, 1947, and looking back at footage from the day, Jobson observed how the Duke always made his wife laugh.

"All the time he is saying things that are clearly inappropriate and she giggles," Jobson said while on the show. "She is trying to behave herself and be all formal and then he says something, and her shoulders go up. And she is just laughing. He makes her giggle all the time, he is flirting with her all the time," he added.

Jobson also predicted when the Duke fell in love with the Queen and this was after he knew and had declared to a captain of his ship that he was going to marry the royal at age 18. "That is the weird thing, he wasn't in love with her then, but he was pretty clear about it. When did he fall in love with her? When he told Mountbatten to stop interfering," Jobson said claiming the couple shared "clear attraction" towards each other when they went up to Balmoral and the Duke proposed "in secret" during one of their walks.

Jobson said he didn't think Duke sought King George's permission when he did so. "I don’t think he even sought permission from the King," Jobson added. "I think he asked him afterward," he said. The couple married at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947, and their wedding — the first royal festivity since the end of the Second World War — was celebrated across the country.
