The Queen of Talk Shows will be sitting down with the Sussexes. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will join Oprah Winfrey for an intimate conversation that will air as a 90-minute primetime special. They certainly do have plenty to talk about and we wonder if 90 minutes will be enough to cover it.

The announcement on February 14 regarding the interview came a day after 39-year-old Meghan announced her second pregnancy and four days after she won a major victory in a privacy lawsuit against the British tabloid Mail. The Valentine’s Day announcement also came exactly 37 years after Princess Diana announced that she was pregnant with Prince Harry.

There is no clarity yet on whether the couple's son Archie will also be a part of the interview, but if anyone can pull it off it will be Oprah.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton feud forces Prince William and Prince Harry to split their staff

Oprah Winfrey was a guest at the wedding of Harry and Meghan and is also one of the couple's neighbors in their Montecito, California neighborhood, where they moved this past summer. Clearly the comfort factor will go in a long way in discussing the sensitive topics the Sussexes have had to contend with of late. Oprah and Meghan also clearly now consider themselves friends and Oprah had posted on Instagram about "a basket of deliciousness" that her neigbour "M" sent her.

Oprah is also teaming up with Prince Harry for a mental health docuseries for Apple TV+. In a 2019 interview with podcast host and journalist Bryony Gordon, Harry said the series — which will premiere this spring — will unveil examples of "human spirit fighting back from the darkest places."

Release date

The 90-minute primetime special will air on CBS on Sunday, March 7, at 8 pm EST/PST.

What will the royals reveal?

A statement issued by CBS says "Winfrey will speak with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood and philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure. Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family."

But what do these revelations now mean for the already strained relations with the royal family? According to the Daily Mail, following news of the tell-all interview, Harry and Meghan are all set to lose all their remaining royal patronages. The Daily Mail states that the Queen will ask Prince Harry and Meghan to relinquish their links with any organisations passed down through the royal family.

If it comes to that, Prince Harry will be stripped of his three remaining honorary titles and potentially his patronages with the Rugby Football Union, Rugby Football League and the London Marathon. Meghan would also have to step down from her role as patron of the National theatre unless another position can be negotiated. With Prince Phillip's 100th birthday approaching, clearly, this is the last thing the Royal family would want to contend with.

Creators

Details on whether the inteview has already taken place are unclear and what pandemic protocol measures have been put in place. The sit down interview was produced by Winfrey's Harpo Productions and sold to CBS, where Winfrey has links, including 'CBS This Morning' co-host Gayle King, Winfrey's longtime best friend.
