Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's trials with popularity continue as the couple is allegedly being forced to "lay low" following their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. The CBS interview that aired on March 7 saw Meghan allege some shocking claims of racism and bullying she suffered during her time as a senior royal.

Both she and Harry claimed that bullying by the British media made Meghan suicidal and the royal family refusing to help was a wake-up call. And now, the UK that saw the interview a day later on March 8, is offering a backlash so severe that the couple is going to keep "quiet" while "plotting their next move".

Speaking to New Idea, sources shared: "Harry and Meghan expected to face backlash, but nothing like this. They’ve decided to keep relatively quiet for a little while ... but," they also warned: "don’t take that as them not plotting their next move.”

Among the explosive claims of racism Meghan shared with Oprah was one that managed to leave people particularly divided: a palace member raising concerns and conversations about how dark her then-unborn son Archie's skin would be, as the former actress is biracial. Meghan claimed she was also denied help for her suicidal thoughts as it would look bad on "the institution".

They refused to do anything to offer help, nipping the harsh tabloid attack that left Meghan wanting to self-harm, she alleged — an incident that many said mirrored the shocking claims made by her mother-in-law, the late Princess of Wales Diana in a 1995 tell-all.

Concluding their interview with hopes of the royal family taking adequate measures to do right by them, Meghan and Harry did get a statement from Buckingham Palace where the Queen expressed sorrow over their ordeals suffered and shared the matter would be looked into privately.

Sources, however, tell New Idea that “they expected this Oprah thing to prompt a massive, groveling response from Buckingham Palace and were furious when the Queen issued her usual terse statement – aside from the part where she basically accused the Sussexes of lying through her ‘some recollections may vary’ zinger. Since then, they’ve been holed up at home.”

News of this comes after TV host Gayle King shared some private phone calls had happened between Harry and his father Charles and brother William — both of whom had allegedly cut him out in the wake of Megxit. “The word I was given was those conversations were not productive, but they are glad they have at least started a conversation,” Gayle said and earned major flak from the other side of the ocean for disclosing matters this private to the family.

King had also revealed that should the couple feel that the Palace's response to their interview was adequate enough, they will go on another tell-all with Oprah or King, both of whom are close friends. The couple also had a deal with CBS and ITV to postpone their tell-all interview if the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, had died during his recent month-long stay in the hospital for an underlying heart condition.
