Canadian singer-songwriter and producer Grimes has spoken out on a YouTube live stream that she will not be sharing her baby's gender. The 'We Appreciate Power' singer revealed the news in support of her new studio album 'Miss Anthropocene'. Both the LP release and the live stream are on February 21.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, says, "I feel like their privacy should be protected. I don't think they can consent to being famous or being in public. And I don't want to gender them in case that's not how they feel in their life. I don't know; I just feel like it doesn't need to be known."

In the announcement of her pregnancy, Grimes has not confirmed who the father of her child is, but she has previously been linked to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, according to Business Insider. Grimes attended the Met Gala with Elon Musk in May 2018, and at the time, reports said the romantic duo had been "quietly dating" for the past few weeks.

According to CNN, Grimes responded to a question in a Twitter Q&A when asked about her baby's gender, saying, "They may decide their fate and identity". Grimes is expecting her first child. She had previously opened up about the challenges she facing during the early stage of her pregnancy, and she added on Friday that the experience has "given me a lot more respect for people who have babies".

As expected if an artist is carrying a baby, Grimes will not be touring in 2020, although fans can enjoy 'Miss Anthropocene', which follows her 2015 release ‘Art Angels’.  Grimes released  the single 'So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth' in November, which is the first track from the new LP.
