Why Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti are feuding and why fans still think '16*29' album will drop soon
Following a recent tweet by Lil Uzi Vert directed at former collaborator, Playboi Carti, fans have come to the conclusion that the two rappers are in a beef. Following a successful release of Carti's new single '@ Meh' (the first in 2020), attention quickly drew to a slight snub on Instagram by Vert who seemed to be trolling the 23-year-old Atlanta-based rapper, whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter.
Vert's comment reads, "Just Meh," with a picture of Carti's new album cover. It seems Vert, 25, whose real name is, Symere Woods, has been keeping watch on Carti's social media as he has been probably trying to hold his word true when he tweeted "Soon as HE drop imma drop again," after he released his new album 'Eternal Atake' in March. The comment wasn't clear at the time, but it is probably okay to say that "HE" is an indirect reference to Carti.
As further fuel to the news, apparently Carti has plans for Monday (April 20), where he may be dropping some new music or album, but Vert might be doing the same. Carti posted a tweet about the same time as Vert's "Just Meh" comment which read, ". MoNDaY." In mere minutes later, Vert seemingly responded with a now-deleted tweet, “So u dropping Monday bet it" and copied the Carti's ". MoNDaY" comment using the exact same textual stylistic. Whatever is happening Monday, one thing is for sure, fans can't wait to find out.
Fans are going wild with the subtle online exchanges and are not sure if this is a way to announce a collaboration between the two, a beef or whatever you want to call it. "Imma need for Carti and Uzi to stop playing and explain wtf is going on. Are y’all trolling, are we going to get a collab, or separate projects???" says a fan while another says, "MY HEAD GONNA EXPLODE UZI CHILL".
Why are fans so riled up over the social media interactions? Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert used to be close friends and collaborators. The two hip-hop artists even announced in 2017 that they would be joining forces to release a collaborative mixtape monikered '16*29'. According to XXL, in 2018, Carti revealed that he and Vert had recorded around 100 tracks together, saying “We’ve been recording since like 2015," adding “So we know what we got to do. We know what we’re capable of. We just gotta do what we gotta do.” They also announced a tour, supporting the mixtape, with guests G Herbo and SOB x RBE, but both were eventually scrapped.
It was rumored that beef between the two rappers was the cause of the tour and album cancellations, but Vert confirmed they were no longer close after a Twitter user asked if the two were on good terms, to which he tweeted back, “NO,” according to Heavy. Although, on the same day, another fan asked “What about you and Carti?” and Vert tweeted, “Nothing. I just took a different route.”
And when one user online said, “As long as ya’ll not beefing we happy,” Vert tweeted back, “I’m not tough I don’t beef we could have a friendly Dress Off.”
Other comments about the latest beef are in hopes of the '16*29' album. After a fan brought it up, one fan responds with "WE GOTTA PRAY" Fans don't want any beef between the two and would rather hear some good music. One fans says, "It's like my parents is fighting." A fan says, "And us uzi fans wins again" to which another fan responds, "Carti and uzi fans the same people who you talking to ?? (sic)"
