Piers Morgan, the former host of ‘Good Morning Britain’ is calling for fellow Britons to “stand up for our Queen”. Taking to Twitter, the British journalist and television presenter said: “There's a very deliberate & malicious campaign being perpetrated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to smear, defame and trash Britain, our Monarchy & the Royal Family as a bunch of heartless racists. It's disgusting. Time to stand up for our Queen.”

Morgan, since the airing of the controversial tell-all interview given by Prince Harry and Meghan to Oprah, has been aggressive in his stance against the couple. He has equally displayed staunch support for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip and pretty much the whole of British royalty.

Meghan claimed in the interview that a royal raised concerns over the color of her then-unborn child. In response to Morgan’s tweet, many online pointed out that racism and the British monarchy were not an unheard-of combination. One Twitter user said, “The British monarchy was known for racism when they colonized the world and how they did it. The country voted for Brexit on the back of racist views not wanting people to come to country. It says it all. Racism probably does exist in the royal family, nonces definitely do.”

Another Twitter user said, “The only smear campaign here appears to be yours. They didn’t say anything bad about the Queen so not sure why you’re bringing her into the mix. And as for the racist Britain part... let’s be honest here and agree that always has and will be a problem.” One Twitter user noted, “Well Britians very History was based on colonialism, Slavery and Racism. This does not come as a surprise at all for most of the countries in the world. You reap what you sow. Deal with it.”

Morgan’s call for Britons to “stand up for our Queen” comes a week after his departure from his presenter role for refusing to apologize for comments he made about the couple's controversial interview. Speaking the morning after the interview aired, Morgan said that he did not believe Meghan's remarks in her interview with Winfrey, during which she spoke about her mental health and of having suicidal thoughts.

The following day, when ‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host Alex Beresford called him out for his seemingly personal vendetta against Meghan, Morgan stormed off the show’s sets. Shortly afterward, he left his position.

Morgan tweeted an obviously photoshopped image of the Queen reading his eleventh book ‘Wake Up: Why the World Has Gone Nuts’. “I don’t know who did this but I love it... and there has to be an outside chance Her Majesty has had a sneak peak, as I know other Royals like Camilla & Fergie have read it,” wrote Morgan on Twitter. Many on the internet pointed out that while he had criticized Meghan’s interview as “disgraceful betrayal of the queen and the royal family,” he seemed to find it okay to use the Queen’s photo for self-promotion.
