Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover had created quite the buzz when the two came under one roof to star in the adaptation series of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s 2005 hit movie ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’. However, now the show is looking for a new leading lady as Phoebe Waller-Bridge has reportedly quit the show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the award-winning actress and writer is no longer associated with the project that was conceptualized by Glover, who is also popular for his rap alter ego Childish Gambino. The latter is very much attached to the show also as a co-creator. The series is being penned by Francesca Sloane, who also worked with Glover on FX’s hit show ‘Atlanta’. Speaking of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the actress has not yet come forward to speak on her leaving the show.

Why did Phoebe Waller-Bridge quit ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ series?

A few sources spilled the beans to The Hollywood Reporter, saying the ‘Fleabag’ star apparently had a different vision of the series than Donald Glover. The two were supposed to star in the lead roles of the show. However, the decision won’t affect the bond the actors share. The yet-untitled adaptation series is scheduled to release by 2022 and the show is currently being written with production expected to begin next year. Phoebe and Glover had sent their fans into a tizzy when they first announced the ambitious project in February 2021.

Despite leaving the show, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has her hands full. The Emmy award-winning star is currently in production on ‘Indiana Jones 5’ and she recently also contributed to the script of the new James Bond film, ‘No Time to Die.’ She also continues to develop other projects for Amazon. Speaking of ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’, the 2005 critically and commercially flick told the story of a married couple John and Jane Smith played by Pitt and Jolie respectively. They portrayed the role of undercover assassins working for rival agencies. The movie unfolds how they eventually get contracts to kill each other.

‘Phoebe Waller-Bridge is no Angelina Jolie’

Social media users were quick to react to the news of Phoebe leaving the show. While a few got upset with the news others said she is no Angelina Jolie. “Who the hell cast this??? Ruby Rose and Alexander Dreymon would be hot.  Or even Sam Heughan. He and Ruby Rose had great chemistry in SAS, the movie was just terrible” said one user as another posted, “Phoebe Waller-Bridge is no Angelina Jolie.”

The next one posted, “I'm kinda sad now. I was waiting this show so much, just for Phoebe.” One user tweeted, “Well that’s unfortunate. I remember how excited everyone was when she was announced.” Another added, “You could FEEL the lack of chemistry when the casting was announced.  No surprise here.” One user said, “At least we still have no time to die and its script that was polished by phoebe waller-bridge to look forward to.” And, another concluded, “I totally forgot about this project tbh. I wonder who the recash will be.”
