EXCLUSIVE | Sian Clifford confirms she and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are ‘working on something’ but no more ‘Fleabag’

Not only did Claire’s near-perfect image and constant bickering with Fleabag add an edge to the siblings’ relationship and present before us an unusual kinship, but the role also earned Sian critical acclaim.

The British comedy-drama series ‘Fleabag’ went on to earn 11 Emmy Primetime nominations and bagged six awards for serving up an uncanny representation of emotions and sexual honesty. The series written and created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge also starred her in the lead role as Fleabag  and she shared a rather intriguing relationship with her on-screen older sister Claire, a character played by Sian Clifford.

Although the series premised on Fleabag’s struggles coping with her best friend’s death and narrated her life as she navigated unfulfilling and a few ‘unacceptable' relationships (the one with the ‘Hot Priest’), her relationship with Claire was pivotal to the show.  Season 2 of ‘Fleabag’ took deep dives into Fleabag and Claire’s relationship, leaving the viewers aching for more of the series’ signature comic chops, through the misadventures of the siblings.

However, Clifford, who met with MEA Worldwide (MEAWW) during the AMC TCA press tour, revealed that there wouldn’t be anymore Fleabag and Claire. However, she teased us with another exciting collaboration with Phoebe, which we could look forward to. She told MEAWW, “We are all very satisfied with wrapping the story up now. No spin-offs, the story is complete and we have only come more and more resolute on it the more we get asked the question of if the story will continue in any way.”

“But we are going to continue to collaborate, we are friends and admirers of one another's work. There will be more Phoebe and Sian, just no more Fleabag and Claire. All I can say is that we are working on something together but that’s all I can tell you,” she further added.

Not only did Claire’s near-perfect image and constant bickering with Fleabag add an edge to the siblings’ relationship and present before us an unusual kinship, but the role also earned Sian critical acclaim and a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and a Critics' Choice nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy.

The actress also spoke about her forthcoming television show ‘Quiz’, based on a scandal that gripped the UK in the “about Charles and Diana Ingram who were accused and convicted of cheating their way to 1 million pounds.”

There has only been one side to the ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire’ scandal we have heard so far, and Sian said through ‘Quiz’, “We are going to shed some light; there is some new evidence. We see their side, their human side and we see the repercussions and aftermath of what they experienced because of this experience.”
