Phoebe Gates net worth: Bill Gates’ daughter follows in mother's footsteps as women's rights activist, wants to 'have her own identity'
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON: Phoebe Adele Gates, the youngest of the three Gates' children, has followed in her mother, Melinda Gates’s footsteps, and is leaving her mark as a women’s rights activist. The 20-year-old Stanford University student, despite growing up in a $131 million mansion in Medina, Washington, did not take her privileged background to be granted. Rather, she wants to “branch away” and wants “to have my own identity”.
However, she is not just content being the daughter of one of the richest couples in the world, she wants to make her own identity. She says, "OK, I’m my parents’ daughter, that gives me immense privilege, but it’s not what I’m defined by." She further adds, “I want to have my own identity, I want to be my own person, I want to branch away from that, but how do I do that in a way where I can yield some sort of change?” while talking to WWD in an interview in 2022.

Even though she is just 20, Phoebe has developed an immense love for voicing women’s plight in various industries. In July 2022, during the Roe vs Wade controversy, she posted a picture of herself in a white bikini. With the sultry post, she captioned, “I’m not shy about my body and/or telling you to keep your bans off of it. Every person deserves access to sexual and reproductive health care. Right now, the Supreme Court is prepared to end the constitutional right to abortion. Join me and millions of other women in our fight for this basic human right.”
Phoebe, who is aspiring to be an icon in the fashion industry, also wants to vocalize against the “toxicity” of the industry. In the same WWD interview while talking about her internship with British Vogue where she went to Copenhagen to cover a fashion week, she says, “There is some toxicity in the industry and I have a huge interest in women’s health as well, so I wanted to work somewhere where it didn’t feel like those were confounding with each other.”
During the Roe vs Wade controversy, she further penned an essay with Vogue for which she wrote in the story, “It’s been a terrible week for American women, and I know that just about everybody needs an emotional outlet right now - to fire off an angry teet or post an abortion fund donation link. But the real test is whether we stay angry. Will we still be enraged next week? Next year? Over the next decade? Because that’s how long the power struggle for abortion rights may take. It took decades to gain the right to choose and 50 years to lose it. It may well take 50 more years to regain it again.”
