PewDiePie: Exploring former YouTube king's streaming name's origin and meaning
TOKYO, JAPAN: Over the years, PewDiePie, has become one of the most well-known YouTubers and content creators on social media. He has set a benchmark for netizens aiming to monetize their videos on YouTube. The star, who moved to Japan last year, is soon going to become a father for the very first time.
Very few people know the YouTube star's real name, which is, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg. Although, he is mostly popular by his YouTube handle, PewDiePie, many of his fans are not aware of the origin and meaning of his online name.
Origin of the name 'PewDiePie'
PewDiePie, a 32-year-old content creator, is primarily known for his "Let's Play" videos and comedic formatted shows. After being born in Sweden, he traveled to England to live a more peaceful and anonymous life. Then, last year, he moved to Japan after the nation relaxed its COVID-19 admission requirements for some visa holders.
Felix, who initially funded his early YouTube career by selling his Photoshop artwork while simultaneously working as a harbor captain and a hot dog server, is currently estimated to be worth millions. In 2010, Felix supposedly forgot the password to his initial "PewDie" account, which led to the creation of the name PewDiePie. His first channel retained the physical onomatopoeic name associated with the sound made when firing a gun in a video game.
Meaning of PewDiePie
In his formative years, the YouTuber frequently streamed shooting games alongside party games and horror films. Felix decided on "Pew" for the sound of a bullet leaving a weapon and "Die" for the outcome. He didn't add "Pie" to the end until he had to create a second channel for the simple reason that "He f*g loves pie," and it was also an amusing quirk that the streamer would pronounce after defeating an opponent in a game. Felix frequently acknowledged that "Die" should be properly pronounced as "Die" and not "dee," despite the fact that millions of people still mispronounce it.
Earlier, in June 2023, PewDiePie announced that he will be taking a break from creating videos for the time being. He also claimed to significantly reduce his content creation schedule as his little bundle of joy gets ready to meet the world. According to a YouTube video by the couple, Marzia's due date is sometime in July.
