The 94th Academy Awards have returned to Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 27, with the red carpet glittering with our favorite stars. The event is being hosted by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes. This year, 'The Power of the Dog' has as many as 12 nods under its belt, becoming the most nominated film.

The Academy announced that the ceremony will be shortened this year with winners for eight categories being announced before the televised program, a move that drew strong criticism. The awards for which will not be boadcast live are for Animated Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, Film Editing, Live Action Short Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Original Score, Production Design and Sound.

After three long years of no host monologues at the Academy Awards, this year began with jokes and laughs as Schumer, Hall and Sykes stepped in on Sunday, March 27. The trio has made history as this is the very first time that three women hosted the ceremony. Introduced by DJ Khaled, the three stars spoke to the audience and drew in some laughs and giggles.

“This year the Academy hired three women to host because it’s cheaper than hiring one man,” Schumer, 40, began. “I’m representing unbearable white women who call the cops when you get too loud.” “A lot of snubs this year,” Sykes, 58, said of nominations, name-dropping Jared Leto and Lady Gaga. “The House of Random Accents,” she said. She also said that although she “watched ‘The Power of Dog’ thrice, she was only “halfway through it.”

Hall, 51, poked fun at 'Space Jam 2' and the 'hairline they gave LeBron James'. As Sykes said “Black Twitter is gonna love that one", Schumer asked, “What’s that?” Poking fun at the Golden Globes, Schumer said, "“You know what’s in the in memorial package this year? The Golden Globes." Before signing off, leaving Schumer with the mic alone, Sykes said, "“We have a great show and for the people in Florida, have a GAY NIGHT!”

Oscars 2022 hosts 'stealing jokes from stan twitter'

Social media, however, seems disappointed with the monologue with some saying it was the "worst" they have ever seen. "I think I can say pretty confidently that’s the worst opening monologue I’ve ever seen from the #Oscars since I’ve been watching," one user said. "That was easily the WORST opening monologue I’ve ever seen. The Oscar’s suck now man," another wrote.

"Stealing jokes from stan twitter to add to your oscar's monologue is a new level of low omg," one user wrote, while another said, "Anytime you have thought an Oscar monologue was bad in the past. That was so much worse than any of those". "That was the most cringe worthy Oscar opening monologue I've ever seen. Terrible hosts," one user commented. Another viewer wrote: "It is legitimately hilarious to me that the Oscars audience is clapping at the sincere-sounding setups in this monologue as if they had never heard jokes before. You know that the second half is not going to be a compliment!"
