Oprah Winfrey's neighbors furious after talk show host builds giant wall around $100M Montecito home
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Oprah Winfrey, 69, is at the receiving end of her neighbors’ ire, all for a cobbled wall that she has built around her property. The talk show host is accused of erecting a massive wall around her multimillion-dollar California property in order to protect it from flooding.
The construction appeared after permission was filed in February to secure her $100 million Montecito estate, the ‘Promised Land’.

It is, however, not known who complained against Winfrey. In the posh locality of California. Winfrey shares address with the other A-listers like Ellen DeGeneres, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The dissenters who complained against Winfrey are fearing that their homes will be subjected to inundation due to the massive wall erected in the vicinity.
It is also not known whether Winfrey knew about the construction that was going on or authorized it. The neighbors are feeling that the wall is going to reroute water which will ultimately hurt their property. Santa Barbara County Planning & Development Department officials have informed Daily Mail that “We are doing our investigation now, so I don't have any determination as to whether a permit or not will be needed.” they further added, “I really can't comment more on that because it's an ongoing investigation.”
Winfrey's love for her property
Back in 2018, following a mudslide in Montecito, Winfrey shared through her Instagram the condition of her property. She took to her Instagram to say, “Thanks everyone for your prayers and concern,” before adding, “My property is fine. Some mud, and minor damage that pales in comparison to what my neighbors are going thru.”
“So, there used to be a fence right here,” said Winfrey about the destroyed compound, “That’s my neighbor’s house, devastated. And debris is everywhere.” She has also repotedly installed a water fountain in the middle of ground amidst the Los Angeles water crisis.
