The clipped performance of Marcos Covos vs Sheer Element

As 'The Voice' Season 23 was heating up like never before, all eyes were set on Team Kelly, who recently paired up Marcos Covos and Sheer Element for a spellbinding rendition of 'I Could Fall in Love.' But the results were surprising, and it left fans of the show scratching their heads in confusion. First up, let's talk about Sheer Element. This talented group features former Team Kelly solo singer, Vig Jensen, who stole the hearts of millions with his angelic voice and charismatic personality. Jensen made history by becoming the very first chair turner to return to the show as a contestant once again. However, his stint in the Battle rounds was short-lived, as Kelly picked the Latin sensation, Marcos, to move on to The Knockouts.

The Battle between Marcos and Sheer Element was not without drama. Adding insult to injury, the entire performance was montaged, which means only a small snippet of the performance was highlighted. Fans of the show were disappointed, to say the least. They had been eagerly waiting for this particular Battle, and it was over before they knew it. But despite the montaged performance, Kelly knew what she was doing. She called all the contestants "really powerful singers," but in the end, she chose Marcos to move on to The Knockouts. Kelly's reason? Well, Marcos showed "passion not just power." She felt that Marcos delivered an emotionally charged performance that showcased his raw talent and unwavering dedication to his craft. To add a twist to the plot, it turns out that Marcos did not sing in Spanish during the Battle. This fact left Kelly surprised, as she was expecting him to do so. But that did not stop her from picking him as the winner of the Battle. In Kelly's eyes, Marcos had something special that set him apart from the other contestants. He had the heart, soul, and passion needed to make it to the next level.

'We want this full performance!'

Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment with the clipped version of the full performance. One said, "Felicidades primo! I only wished we got to see your full performance. Let’s do him right next time.", while another pointed out, "I can't believe my #1 pick has been eliminated and I didn't even get to hear them sing again!!". Demanding justice for clipped performances, another viewer said, "Why we didn’t see the performance ???" and another continued, "It was like 25 minutes and I am sad that is wasn't a full version" Some even said, "i’m confused why did y’all not show their full thing" and another was sarcastic with their opinion, "Thanks for that 15 seconds...". One tweet really stood, they said, " Obviously the voice didn't learn its lesson. Shortcutting on the show and passing up these guys full performance. Is pretty Reprehensible."

Why is 'The Voice' clipping performances?

It's no secret that 'The Voice' has been known to clip performances, leaving fans feeling disappointed and frustrated. But why exactly does this happen? One possible reason could be time constraints. With the show's tendency to cram many performances into a single episode, there may simply not be enough time to showcase every moment in its entirety. This is especially true during the Battle rounds, where the coaches are tasked with pairing up contestants and having them compete against each other in a head-to-head battle. Another possible reason for clipping performances is the marketing strategy. Reality shows depend heavily on viewer reactions and preferences, so it's possible that a particular performance or artist might not garner much traction. In such cases, producers may choose to trim the performance to keep viewers engaged with the show. However, it's important to note that clipping performances can also have negative consequences. As we saw with the backlash over the Marcos Covos-Sheer Element performance, fans are not happy with this practice. They want to see the full performance, and they feel cheated when only a small portion is shown. With the backlash 'The Voice is receiving, producers may need to take a step back and reconsider their approach. It's clear that fans want to see the entire performance, and if the show wants to keep its viewers engaged, it may need to make some changes. Ultimately, it's up to the producers to decide how to handle the issue of clipping performances. But one thing is for sure: if they want to keep their fans happy, they will need to find a way to strike a balance between time constraints and viewer preferences.
