‘I didn't want to do this’: Richard Wilkins WEEPS live on air as he pays tribute to Olivia Newton-John
CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA: Famous Australian Television presenter Richard Wilkins burst into tears on a television show on Monday, August 9, 2022. Olivia Newton-John's death was announced by her husband, John Easterling. Wilkins broke down as his last interview with Olivia was aired on the show. Olivia has been battling the fourth stage of breast cancer in recent years.
Richard was seen uncontrollably sobbing in the show. The show host, Karl Stefanovic left his seat on the discussion panel to comfort his colleague as he wiped Richard's tears. He has a long-time friendship with the 'Grease' star.

Richard stated, "I didn't want to do this," as he kept weeping on the show. 'It's alright,' Stefanovic said while hugging the presenter. "This woman was extraordinary," repeated Richard while the show was on the air. Wilkins was emotional at the beginning of the show when he first delivered the news about Olivia's death. "Dickie, I'm so sorry for your loss," Stefanovic comforted him.
'It's our loss, the world has lost a beautiful human being today." responded Richard. He further explained how he received the phone call with this devastating news. "I was just sort of numb," he told Stefanovic and co-host Allison Langdon. "You know, all the dates and facts and figures and things just disappear and I just felt completely, just completely numb. I didn't really know what to think." he added.
Olivia was one of the favorite stars on the silver screen. She started her career with a music band called 'Soul Four' and the four-time Grammy-winner became a star in the music industry. Her first single was 'Till You Say You'll Be Mine' for Decca Records in 1966. She has worked across industries and showed interest in working for the public.
