NWSL Challenge Cup: Jane Campbell gets Houston Dash through with penalty kick save, fans say 'that's my captain'
Goalkeeper Jane Campbell might have represented the United States in the under-23 and under-17 national teams but that still doesn't speak highly enough of her penalty saving abilities which are pretty much godsend. All of 25, Campbell is a whole other side of unstoppable, where she will stop anything and everything that comes her way during a penalty shootout against her team Houston Dash. Her latest feat of quashing Vero Bouquet's attempt to get the Utah Royals to the Challenge Cup semi-finals has fans calling her a PK queen and their 'f**cking captain'
It was after a scoreless draw on July 17 night that Campbell stopped Boquete’s attempt and the Dash advanced to the Challenge Cup semifinals, 3-2 on penalties. Right now in the fourth position, the Dash are supposed to play the Portland Thorns on Wednesday morning, July 22, to advance to the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League finals. Campbell's incredible feat came in what is the second time a match went straight to penalty shootouts in the NWSL history and fans can't keep calm about it.
"Jane Campbell is the gawd at stopping PKs if I'm not mistaken, right?" tweeted a fan, while another chimed in: "Some goalkeepers are just better at PKs than others. Jane Campbell is one of the best." A fan even asked: "I need someone to explain to me how Jane Campbell is so gosh darn good at saving penalties." Screaming all in favour of Campbell's talent, a fan tweeted: "JANE CAMPBELL THATS MY F**KING CAPTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Other reactions to Campbell's incredible tackling of penalties saw fans label her "Jane Campbell, queen of PKs." Having saved 9 out of the 13 penalties she have received in her NWSL career so far, it's no secret why some claimed: "Having Jane Campbell in goal for a penalty shoot out seems like an unfair advantage" enjoyed by the Dash. As one fan summed it up for everybody in sheer awe of Campbell's technique, "Jane Campbell is the penalty whisperer. On to the semi's." Clearly she's more than just an inspiration to some, as a fan tweeted: "Gonna try to live my life like Jane Campbell dominating penalty kicks."
