SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO: Thirty-two tourists were taken aback when they saw a gigantic hammer-headed shark while on a tour boat in the Bahamas. Something strange happened, though, when a dog dived from a nearby dock to face the massive and monstrous sea creature.

The tourists, who were aboard the boat for a four-hour excursion, were heard shouting at the dog in a video circulated on social media to turn back. However, all requesters got ignored and the dog paddled forward after the 12-foot shark.

The 12ft shark had emerged from under the boat

The shark had emerged from under the boat during a tour Wednesday in the southern Bahamas organized by Exuma Water Sports as per a news report. "A small dog in the Bahamas jumps in the water to go after a massive 12-foot-long hammerhead shark and appears to take a bite at the shark. Dog: Safe. Shark: Gone. Audience: Stunned," David Begnaud Tweeted a Tik Tok video from the scene.

'Dog said, 'Not on my watch'

"Dog said, "Not on my watch," a user reacted on the video. "Count me among the stunned," one more wrote. "Amazing dog. I hope the dog has a great owner," wrote one. Though some were critical for letting the dog swim in as one said, "And this is why people should use leashes, support animal welfare and rescue. Also, we don’t deserve the magnificence that is a dog." One more expressed,"I wouldn't record it if that was my dog, I'd jump in after her!!"

'The dog decided he wanted to protect his house'

Company reservations manager Rebecca Lightbourn told The AP on Friday that the black-and-tan dog always runs along the shore to greet the boat when it passes that island. But it’s the first time it was seen diving in. β€œI guess this time the dog decided he wanted to protect his house or play with a really big fish in the water, so he went after it,” Lightbourn said.

When the shark swam away from the pier, the medium-sized dog scrambled back onto the rocks and loped away, earning applause from the tourists. The boat then headed to a popular area where tourists jump into the water with the renowned Bahamian swimming pigs, the report mentioned.
