Bebe, a four-month-old dog, was rescued by New York City Police Department's Emergency Service Unit from the East River after it broke free from its leash on Saturday morning, April 2. Can Liu, a worker at the Animal Haven shelter in Lower Manhattan, was walking Bebe, the black rescue pup, when he was startled by a Rottweiler that was not on a leash.

Bebe managed to pull free from his walker after the other dog tried to bite his face. "He latched onto my dog's face. I was trying to separate them," Liu explained to the New York Post. "The little guy must have gotten spooked by the big dog, then he was wandering around before managing to jump into the frigid East River." In this case, the little dog was spooked but recently in a shocking case where a terrified woman, 25, was bitten on her neck, arms, hands, and legs as she attempted to save herself from a violent pit bull by dragging herself to the elevator in an apartment tower in Cucuta, Colombia. Then a disturbing CCTV footage from a neighborhood in Philadelphia revealed two people encouraging their dogs to attack a cat that was sitting on the porch of a home. The attack left the cat severely injured.

"He's scared of people. I guess he found like a crevice by the pier and just jumped in," Liu added to the Post. Under Pier 17, the dog was dragged along by the current. "That's when everybody started freaking out. This is like a little four-month-old puppy in freezing cold water," Liu said to the post.

Officers from the New York City Police Department's Emergency Service Unit arrived promptly and dived into the water, bringing Bebe to safety. The dog was back at the shelter on April 2 afternoon and appeared to be unhurt. "He seems fine now, much better. He's eating. He's still playing," Liu said. Bebe was rescued from Antigua's streets and taken to New York City to be adopted.

The dog was rescued again later that day, this time finding his forever home. Rayshon Modeste, an 18-year-old Brooklyn resident, discovered the puppy's picture on Animal Haven's website after adopting another dog, Dash, from the same shelter. Modeste, who drove Bebe home on Saturday, remarked, "My soul talked with Bee Bee just from the picture I saw of [him] on the website, the same way my soul talked with Dash."

Another similar scenario occurred when a Colorado cop saved the life of a dog trapped in a car. People were astonished and moved by the video of the incident posted on Facebook that showed a heroic police officer heroically rescue a dog from a flaming SUV. The incident allegedly occurred in January, but the Douglas County Sheriff's Office only recently posted about it on social media. The video was captured from the cop's bodycam, which was worn by Michael Gregorek, a deputy of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
