Who is Sarah Hartsfield?

Sarah Hartsfield, the 48-year-old woman from Texas, has a history of being a suspect in different alleged murders and is also under investigation in Minnesota for shooting her fiance to death in 2018. Initially, the prosecutor deemed the killing as self-defense. However, when she was later indicted for the murder in January by a Texas jury, the murder case of her fiance, David Bragg, was reopened for investigation.

According to the court documents obtained by the news outlet, Hartsfield plotted the murder of her ex-husband Christopher Donohue's new wife. At the time, Hartsfield whose last name was George allegedly told her then-husband David George to carry out the plot. However, court documents show that there was concern whether Hartsfield found someone else to kill her if George did not.

George later denied the alleged murder plot and stated that it was her plan to take the two children of the Donohue from their mother. In an affidavit, he also mentioned that he traveled from Minnesota to Donohue's Arizona home. Local police in Arizona began their investigation in Sierra Vista in March 2021 over the murder plot.

Sarah George's case investigation against Hartsfield

In a statement from the department, a spokesperson wrote, “On March 19, 2021, an FBI agent contacted a detective with the SVPD and advised they were investigating Christopher and Heather Donohue and Christopher’s ex-wife Sarah George. He requested a close patrol of Christopher’s residence until they had a better understanding of the case. The SVPD conducted close patrols of the residence as requested."

According to the affidavit by Donohues, at the time Hartsfield "lied about everything," to the investigators who spoke to her at her home, and the "agents were gone.” A week after the alleged conversation with the investigators, she filed a divorce from the alleged hit man David George. After the news of the alleged plot broke out, she lost custody of her two younger children and the judge ordered Hartsfield not to contact her two younger children and the new wife of Donohue.

Is Hartsfield held in prison on a bond?

On the Texas murder charge, Hartsfield is currently held in Chambers County Jail on a $5,000,000 bond. Brian Wice, KPRC 2 Legal Analyst said, "The nature of the offender? A woman who’s allegedly engaged in a variety of criminal wrongdoing that you’re not likely to see in your typical run-of-the-mill murder defendant," and added, "When it comes to the punishment stage of any criminal trial in Texas, if in fact she’s convicted of murder, I can almost assure you, that this jury will hear almost everything about her life because your life during the punishment stage becomes an open book."

In a statement to the news outlet, Keaton Kirkwood, defense attorney of Hartsfield wrote, "Sarah Hartsfield maintains her innocence and will assist in the investigation of her husband’s untimely death. We adamantly denounce the misinformation that has been provided to the public regarding her past, as well as any criminal involvement currently in Chambers County. We are engaged in the discovery process and would remind the public to withhold any judgment until due process has been satisfied.”

At her expected arraignment on March 1, Hartsfield's defense plans to request the judge to reduce the bond amount.
