Nick Cordero can't be taken off ventilator as he has developed fever after amputation, reveals wife Amanda Kloots
Actor Nick Cordero's wife Amanda Kloots has updated her fans and followers on Instagram with the news that her husband has not been removed from the ventilator after developing a new fever in the early hours of Monday, April 27. The 41-year-old is in hospital after his leg had to be amputated on April 18 post coronavirus complications.
She said that the earlier plan was to take Cordero off the ventilator and "slowly reducing his medication and the machines he’s on”. However, doctors have to stop after the actor "got a fever... that caused his blood pressure to drop slightly”.
“Unfortunately, they are not able to remove the ventilator today and put the trach in,” Kloot provided the information to followers on social media. Continuing, she said that the ‘Mob Town’ star is now "back on a little bit of blood pressure medication" that he had earlier stopped taking as doctors try "to just really make sure that this fever doesn't really go anywhere, get out of control."
She also stated that Cordero’s doctors are now "doing a couple of tests to try to find out the source of this fever”. "They have got it under control. They are working on him and taking good care of him, but they are going to set aside the ventilator removal until they get this under control,” Kloots, who has 10-month-old son Elvis Eduardo with Cordero, said.
“So please keep us and Nick in your prayers,” she added.
This comes a few days after Kloots had shared that they are stuck in a "bit of a waiting game" after Cordero's surgery that happened about two weeks ago. Taking to Instagram on Thursday, April 23, she shared with her followers, "The doctors do think that he should have woken up by now," noting that her husband had been "heavily sedated" for 13 days prior.
She also shared how the family is "just hoping and praying every day that Nick wakes up, and putting that energy and positivity out there because I do believe he will." "He’s on Nick time and when he wakes up, we’ll all be here to celebrate it. The doctors said that there was nothing on the MRI [earlier this week] that would show that he won’t wake up, which is amazing. We are so happy about that because that was a big worry for all of us,” Kloots added.
In the same social media update, Kloots also revealed that the doctors are planning to take Cordero, known for his portrayal of Earl in the Broadway hit 'Waitress', off the ventilator. "Great, great news. Small little wins," she had said.
Cordero had been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, on March 31. Initially, he was misdiagnosed with pneumonia. However, later he tested positive for Covid-19, Amanda had revealed at the time.
In addition to Cordero's health woes, the pandemic has a devastating impact on America with a total of 988,490 confirmed positive cases and more than 17,515 deaths alone in New York City, according to Johns Hopkins University.
