Nick Cordero still in coma after leg amputation during coronavirus battle: 'He should have woken up by now'
Nick Cordero's wife Amanda Kloots provided fans and followers with an update on the Broadway star's health journey.
Cordero's leg had to be amputated last week post coronavirus complications. 38-year-old Kloots took to her Instagram stories on Thursday, April 23, to share that they are stuck in a "bit of a waiting game" after Cordero's surgery, which took place on April 18.
She shared with her followers, "The doctors do think that he should have woken up by now," as she noted that Cordero, known for his portrayal of Earl in the Broadway hit 'Waitress', had been "heavily sedated" for 13 days prior.
Kloots added how the family is "just hoping and praying every day that Nick wakes up, and putting that energy and positivity out there because I do believe he will."
"He’s on Nick time and when he wakes up, we’ll all be here to celebrate it," she shared. "The doctors said that there was nothing on the MRI [earlier this week] that would show that he won’t wake up, which is amazing. We are so happy about that because that was a big worry for all of us."
Kloots also revealed that the doctors are working on taking Cordero off the ventilator and "slowly reducing his medication and the machines he’s on." Currently, the Canadian actor is totally off blood pressure medicines, which Kloots says "is great."
"Great, great news. Small little wins," she concluded her update. On April 22, Wednesday, she gave fans a little insight into her life with Cordero before he contracted coronavirus. In her Instagram stories, she revealed that there is a "great oneliner" that he had used which she would never forget.
She recalled a night when the pair were at the Rainbow Room in NYC where they were one of the few couples inside dancing. "I love the Rainbow Room, I love anything iconic New York. It wasn’t really crowded," she shared.
As the couple danced, Cordero looked at her and said, "Amanda Kloots, you were made for rooms like this. I have never forgotten that and it’s just another thing we will get back to doing one day, dancing at the Rainbow Room."
Social media users have been taking to various platforms to send their best wishes for his speedy recovery. One such fan wrote, "What an adorable family. Although this is awful I’m so happy for them that he’s still alive."
A second shared, "Prayers!! I’m so very sorry!!! This is so terrible!" while a third wrote, "I’m so sad that it has come to this. Sending prayers and positive thoughts that he makes a complete recovery from this point on. And that his family receives the support they need."
Another chimed in, "Sending waves of good thoughts. Hope you wake up and recover and see your beautiful family."
Cordero had been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA on March 31. On April 1, he was diagnosed with coronavirus after being misdiagnosed with pneumonia, Amanda had revealed at the time.
