Actor Nick Cordero's recovery after leg amputation surgery has taken an unexpected turn as his wife shared on Tuesday, April 28, that the ‘Broadway’ star got an infection in his lungs that spread to his blood, causing him to go into "a little bit of a septic shock" after developing a fever.

Cordero is in hospital after his leg had to be amputated on April 18 post coronavirus complications.

His wife Amanda Kloots said in an Instagram update that doctors have since "went in and completely clean out his lungs" and gave Cordero "a really strong antibiotic to help him with the infection in his lungs."

She also stated that the doctors put the 41-year-old on medication to control his blood pressure, but are now slowly trying to wean him off the drug.

“We had kind of a bit of a rough day yesterday. This kind of came out of nowhere after two days of really great progress,” the fitness instructor said in the video posted on her social media page. She also mentioned that despite these setbacks, the actor is doing well and his condition is stable and his "fever is under control."

Kloots, who shares 10-month-old son Elvis Eduardo with the ‘Mob Town’ star, also said that her husband is now "back to feeling better" and "resting" following the ordeal.

"We kind of just wait and see. He is throwing us through some loops, that’s for sure,” she added.

This comes a day after Kloots shared with her fans and followers on Instagram that Cordero has not been taken off from the ventilator after developing a new fever in the early hours of Monday, April 27.

She updated that the ‘A Stand Up Guy’ star’s doctors had earlier planned to remove him from the life support system and "slowly reduce his medication and the machines he’s on”. However, doctors had to stop after the actor “got a fever...that caused his blood pressure to drop slightly”.

“Unfortunately, they are not able to remove the ventilator today and put the trach in,” Kloots said, adding that Cordero is now "back on a little bit of blood pressure medication" that he had earlier stopped taking as doctors try "to just really make sure that this fever doesn't really go anywhere, get out of control."

She also stated that Cordero’s doctors are now "doing a couple of tests to try to find out the source of this fever”.

"They have got it under control. They are working on him and taking good care of him, but they are going to set aside the ventilator removal until they get this under control,” Kloots said on Monday.

Cordero, who was nominated for a Tony for his role in ‘Bullets Over Broadway’, has been in the hospital since late March.

He was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, on March 31. Initially, he was misdiagnosed with pneumonia. However, later he tested positive for Covid-19, Amanda had revealed at the time.
