New Amsterdam Season 2: Is Daniel Dae Kim's addition to the cast as Dr Shin a replacement for Dr Reynolds?
'New Amsterdam' fans may be sad that their favorite show's latest episode has been pushed to next week due to the presidential election, but they've got good news too. 'Hawaii Five-0' veteran and 'The Good Doctor' producer, actor Daniel Dae Kim will be joining the good guys at the hospital on 'New Amsterdam'.
He will be a series regular for this season of the NBC medical drama and will star as Dr Cassian Shin, the new head trauma surgeon, according to Deadline."Taking a little field trip from my home on thegooddoctorabc out East to nbcnewamsterdam. Now we’ve got two nights of great medical dramas to watch," Kim tweeted.
Dr Shin will make his debut in the April 7 episode. "Great! I look forward to seeing him," one fan tweeted about the news while another said, "Awesome! @NBCNewAmsterdam is incredible and @danieldaekim will make a wonderful addition!" However, some fans were concerned about what Dr Shin's entry means for Dr Floyd Reynold's future.
Reynolds is looking to move to San Francisco with his future wife - leaving behind Dr Max Goodwin and the gang. It is quite possible that he does eventually leave and the show is adding a new face to balance that out. However, Floyd is the cardiovascular surgeon so he's definitely not a replacement for Reynolds.
Kim has starred in the ABC hit 'Lost' as Jin-Soo Kwon as well as 'The Legend of Korra', '24' and 'Angel.'
'New Amsterdam' has already been renewed for three seasons by NBC, which means there is plenty of time for both Dr Shin and Sr Reynolds' character arcs to grow and bloom. There is also a possibility that Kim may be brought in as a love interest for Dr Helen Sharpe - since they're now playing around with Max's love life with Alice.
The show, inspired by Dr Eric Manheimer’s memoir 'Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital' and his journey as a medical director at Bellevue, has had quite the success in just a matter of two seasons. New Amsterdam airs Tuesdays at 10/9c.
