NBA YoungBoy slammed for saying he liked black makeup, fans think jail 'changed' him
Rapper Youngboy Never Broke Again, also known as YoungBoy NBA, sparked an uproar among fans as he sported a new look with makeup on in his latest music video. Many believed his prison stint had changed him, while others supported him saying it was a form of creative expression.
The Baton Rouge performer raised eyebrows as he donned face makeup in the music video for 'Black Ball', which was shot while he was under house arrest. His eyes and lips were covered with dark makeup and the words “Rock” and “Peace” were emblazoned on his cheeks. The 22-year-old rapper opened up about his "goth" appearance and a newfound love for makeup while speaking with DJ Akademiks on Clubhouse.

"I like painting my face, putting makeup on," YoungBoy said. "I like to look in the mirror and see everything black. Like my eyes and sh*t." Akademiks asked him to clarify, noting that he saw a photo of the rapper wearing black makeup. "That's one hundred percent real! That's me being myself," YoungBoy admitted. "Just, I don't know. I feel comfortable that way."
The Grammy-nominated MC explained that he's not wearing face paint and that he procured actual makeup from MAC cosmetics. “That’s some s**t from MAC,” he said. “I made my engineer go buy it. It gives me like the goth feeling, like a rockstar or some s**t.”

Fans were divided on YoungBoy's new look. It did not sit well with some fans, who insinuated that his recent jail stint had changed him. "Not even homophobic but this just looks weird and isn't right," said a fan while another wrote, "Doesn’t make his music any better". Another fan wrote, "Wtf they be doing to artists when they go to jail?!?! Like they never come back the same." Yet another said, "I’m praying for the minds of Black Men and Boys, who are being conditioned to hate their masculinity. SMH."

Others, however, defended his newfound love for makeup. "Young boy isn’t gay for wearing makeup. Y’all just don’t want to see black men express themselves creatively," wrote a fan while another wrote "Makeup is subjective. NBA youngboy saying he likes it and yall coming with the memes because it's not traditional is exactly wtf wrong with yall. it makes him feel good and should be left there."
"That NBA young boy pic w/the “makeup” looks no different than what rockstars do to their face. Yeah, it feels out of character for him but if he says that’s what he like. A Black boy being expressive outside of y’all acceptable norms is always “weird”," wrote a Twitter user whole another said, "Trust me when I say I never expected youngboy to be the rapper helping to break the stigma on men wearing makeup."
