How upcoming Mexican Kung Fu anime series 'Seis Manos' could take inspiration from the action in 'Narcos: Mexico'

The Japanese-style anime 'Seis Manos' focuses on 3 orphaned martial arts warriors who join forces with a US Drug Enforcement Administration agent and a Mexican Federale to avenge the death of their mentor

Netflix is bringing another series that revolves around the narco culture in Mexico, a Japanese-style anime named 'Seis Manos'. The title that translates to 'Six Hands' focuses on three orphaned martial arts warriors who join forces with a US Drug Enforcement Administration agent and a Mexican Federale to avenge the death of their beloved mentor. The warriors team up for the battle of justice when they find their mentor murdered on the streets of their tiny border town.

The poster of the show was recently unveiled and it features five warriors with a monster maniac at the top. Buzz is that six hands actually refers to the number of hands of the three protagonists.

The details of the show are being kept under wraps but it will be exciting to see if the show has glimpses or characters based on 'Narcos: Mexico'.

The crime-thriller brings to fore the nitty-gritty of the mafia world and drug lords.

Perhaps, the setting and vibe could be a source of inspiration for the show that is set to tell a Kung Fu horror story blended with the mysticism of Latin culture and 21st-century pulp.

Since action is a pivotal part of both 'Narcos: Mexico' and 'Seis Manos', it could drive some sort of semblance and connect with the audience.

The only difference could be that the latter focuses on mastering martial arts as the protagonists find themselves in the middle of a war between the cops and a mob boss.

While Viz Media chief marketing officer Brad Woods called it a show that “combines the absolute best in action and storytelling,” John Derderian from Netflix said: “We’re excited to be working with such a fantastic group of animators and storytellers to produce our first original anime series set in Mexico. Our Mexican subscribers, and viewers in Latin America more broadly, have a tremendous passion for anime. We look forward to sharing this completely unique series with them, and with the growing community of anime fans around the world.”

Created by Brad Graeber and 'From Dusk Till Dawn' fame writer Alvaro Rodriguez, it will be directed by Willis Bullinger. Dan Dominguez, who is popular for shows like 'Captain Underpants', 'Spongebob Squarepants' and 'Bernstein', is also onboard the show as a writer.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, after the poster was unveiled, Rodriguez referred to the show as "Machete meets Kill Bill on the set of Coco".

Commenting about the role of the women in the show, he said, "They're all really played against stereotype and as strong characters."

The series is all set to hit the streaming service this fall.
