Morgan Freeman shows how hardships did not stop him as he leaves fans awestruck with gray dreadlocks
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Morgan Freeman left his fans surprised when he shared a picture on social media. The 85-year-old actor was seen sporting long gray dreadlocks on photo he posted on Instagram page. The caption read, “Would you buy Tacos from this guy? #TacoTuesday PC: Lynda Eichner @TreesFlowersSkin.”
The photo has attracted more than 290,000 likes with loads of compliments, including “The new 2023 look? Brilliant! Love your work and the o so many characters you've played! Keep up the good work!” “85 years old Legend & still lit … greetings from Nigeria,” “He has dreads now that's so cool,” and “Wait, grandpa Freeman with dreads, so cool.”

‘You have to be married to be a father’
However, life has not been a cakewalk for Freeman as he also faced hardships in life, including losing a grandchild. ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ star has four children, and the eldest one is Alfonso, whom he had with Loletha Adkins in 1959. He became a father for the second time in 1960 after having Saifoulaye with an unknown woman.
Then in 1967, Freeman tied the knot with Jeanette Adair Bradshaw and they had a daughter, Morgana. The ‘Going in Style’ actor also adopted Jeanette’s daughter, Deena, after the marriage. He had admitted that being a father initially was not pleasant for him as he said, “I’m not sure fatherhood changed me. You have to be married to be a father. I sired a couple of kids without being married, but that doesn’t make you a father," per Closer.
“It took a while for me to become a father. I was busy trying to be an actor, and the two didn’t really go together in my youth,” he stated, before noting that he loved being a family man now. He added, “Now, I am in my dotage. I am a great-grandfather. I’m not a hands-on grandfather … I haven’t changed diapers. But when I had daughters, I changed theirs. Being hands-on makes a difference in your child’s life.”
Myrna Colley-Lee wanted a child with Freeman
Freeman exchanged vows for the second time with Myrna Colley-Lee in 1984. The costume designer was reportedly very eager to start a family with him but the ‘Seven’ star was not in favor of having more children. The pair found a middle path when Deena asked them to take in her daughter, E'Dena, as she was going through a rough phase. It has been said that the two enjoyed co-parenting the girl.
In 2008, at the age of 71, Freeman had a near-fatal accident while driving to his Mississippi ranch. It was said at the time that he fell asleep while behind the wheel. Due to the accident, his left hand stopped working and he had to give “up on some fun things."
E'Dena’s murder left Morgan Freeman heartbroken
Years after the accident, Freeman lost his granddaughter E’Dena. In 2015, the actress was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport, outside her apartment in Washington Heights, New York. Davenport was found guilty of her murder and given two decades behind bars in 2019.
Following E’Dena’s death, Freeman said in a statement, “The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
