PARIS, FRANCE:  The story of the couple, Michel Fourniret and Monique Olivier is not new to the people of France. However, the story of this couple who raped and killed virgins across Europe is all set to be released as a series, 'Monique Olivier: Accessory to Evil," on Netflix on Friday, March 3.

The Netflix series description reads, "From 1987 to 2003, Michel Fourniret cemented his legacy as France's most infamous murderer. But his wife was an enigma: Was she a pawn or a participant?" Hence, it is clear that the series will explore the involvement of his wife in the murders that he executed.

How did Olivier and Fourniret meet?

The duo met Olivier as he was in jail dealing with the punishment of a 1966 case for sexually assaulting a young girl. They met via a prison pen pal program. Fourniret wrote to her in detail about all his sexual fantasies and his desire to rape virgin girls. Olivier responded to him saying that she would "help" him fulfill those fantasies if he killed her husband, although he never committed this murder. They met after he got released from prison in 1987 and eventually got into a relationship. Later, the duo together started hunting for virgin girls, and Olivier became his accomplice. Olivier and Fourniret exchanged 217 letters, addressing him as 'My Tiger'. She said during one of her trials, “When I write to him, it’s not to make a living with it; it’s to receive mail, to exist for someone."

What was Olivier's involvement in the murders?

Olivier is a former nurse, and she is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for her involvement in five of her husband's murders - including the killing of British student Joanna Parrish. Olivier had claimed that most of the victims of the crime "greatly exceeded 30," according to investigating sources who have monitored her in Rennes prison, as per Daily Mail. She was apparently accused by prosecutors of helping her husband find out to choose and capture victims before helping to hide their bodies. Olivier, who is still awaiting trial at the end of 2023, will be examined for her role in the murder of Joanna and the kidnapping of Estelle Mouzin, in 2003, in Seine-et-Marne, as well as the 1988 kidnapping of Marie-Angèle Domèce in Yonne. In one of their first murders, the duo traveled in a van through the forest, and the criminal couple approached 17-year-old Isabelle Laville, who was on her way home from school. They persuaded her to travel along with them to show them the directions. Her remains were found at the bottom of a well at a later time, as per BBC.
