Who is Melvin Townsend III? Flyer hit by Mike Tyson has a lengthy criminal record
Mike Tyson allegedly punched a passenger, identified as Melvin Townsend III, on a flight. The incidence is said to have occurred on a JetBlue aircraft from San Francisco International Airport to Florida. Melvin Townsend III shot to fame after getting beaten up on a plane by Mike Tyson. However, it turns out that the 36-year-old has a lengthy criminal record and is no stranger to legal issues.
Townsend has an extensive criminal history, which has just been disclosed. He had previously been convicted of fraud, grand theft, burglary, drug possession, and trafficking of stolen property. In 2018, Townsend broke into a house and stole a trailer, which he hitched to his pickup. He's also been charged with possessing oxycodone. Official documents do not offer any additional information, but he did his prison time twice, for 20 months and 15 months, respectively.

On the aircraft, Mike Tyson hit Melvin in the face, injuring him. Despite Tyson's repeated requests for him to calm down, the latter was an extremely enthusiastic fan who kept talking in his ear. According to witnesses, Tyson was first unconcerned about all of his admirers on the airplane asking for pictures. He consented and even snapped photographs with them.

Melvin, who sat in the row behind Tyson, couldn't get enough of him. The boxer was patient at first, but as Melvin continued to bother him, he became enraged and hit him a few times. Melvin was then taken to the hospital for treatment of his injury, and law enforcement was called in.
Witnesses say Tyson departed the plane a few seconds after punching the man, according to a video obtained by an online news website. San Francisco officers apprehended two unnamed passengers from the flight and gave San Mateo County cops a video of the incident.
