Who is Melanie Inglessis? Amber Heard's former makeup artist claims she covered actress's bruises
After an argument with Johnny Depp in December 2015, Amber Heard's former makeup artist allegedly helped the actress cover up a bruised face and a broken lip. Melanie Inglessis, Heard's former makeup artist, testified on Wednesday, May 18, about assisting Heard in concealing a split lip and blue bruises she said she had in a fight with Depp on December 15, 2015. Inglessis explained, "We covered the discoloration, the bruises, with a slightly heavier concealer. One that has a little more peach undertone, which I normally don't use on Amber, but peach cancels blue. So I did that under the eyes."
Heard testified earlier in the trial that Depp headbutted her, punched her, and dragged her by the hair during the altercation. After the altercation, Heard summoned Inglessis, who was also her friend at the time, to her apartment, the makeup artist said. According to Inglessis, she observed a note scribbled on the kitchen counter that read, "Why be a fraud? All is such bullshit..." While she said she didn't spot any bruises on Heard that night, Inglessis returned to the apartment the next day to apply Heard's makeup for her appearance on James Corden's ‘The Late Late Show.’

"Although Amber always has a red lip — it was one of her signature looks — I remember clearly thinking that we have no other option that night. Because of the red blood, we used red to make sure we could cover up the bleeding on the lip,” she added. Inglessis claimed Heard had injuries on her face when she arrived at the flat the next day, including discoloration beneath both eyes and a split lip. She reported her right eye had a little more of a gash with blue and yellow discoloration.

Inglessis said, "I used a different kind of concealer that I wouldn't normally use on Amber. I used a concealer that had a peach undertone. Peach undertone concealers are more effective to cover any darkness of blue undertone." Inglessis stated that she had never seen Depp physically abuse Heard, though she did apply arnica gel to help minimize swelling on one occasion. Heard said previously in the trial that she purposefully used her cosmetics kit to disguise bruises so that others wouldn't see injuries in paparazzi images. "I am typically photographed in LA when I leave the house, paparazzi types of photographs. No woman wants to walk around with a bruise on her face,” Heard explained.
Depp has sued Heard for defamation, saying she destroyed his image and career by implying in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed that she had been the victim of domestic abuse. Heard is challenging the case and testified for several days about various episodes in which she claims Depp was physically and sexually abusive to her. The allegations have been refuted by Depp.
