During their Oprah Winfrey interview, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said a lot of ground-breaking things, making accusations of racism and mistreatment against 'The Firm'. The revelations about their personal life and time as working royals has sent shockwaves across the globe. She also compared herself to Disney's 'The Little Mermaid', which is now being scoffed at.

In the interview, Meghan revealed how she related to Ariel, who trades her voice for a pair of legs to be with the prince.

Meghan Markle 'talked over' Harry many times in Oprah interview: 'She often tapped his hand and he'd just stop'

Meghan Markle had blogged about Kate's wedding in 2014, and yet claimed she didn't know about the British royals

"We were saying, gosh, it must have been years ago, I was sitting in Nottingham Cottage and The Little Mermaid came on. Now, who as an adult really watched The Little Mermaid?" Meghan told Oprah.

In this handout image provided by Harpo Productions and released on March 5, 2021, Oprah Winfrey interviews Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on A CBS Primetime Special premiering on CBS on March 7, 2021.

"But it came on, and I was like, 'Well, I'm just here all the time so I might as well just watch this. And I went, 'Oh my God, she falls in love with a Prince and because of that she has to lose her voice."

"But by the end, she gets her voice back." To which Oprah replied, "And that’s what happened here, you feel like you got your voice back." Earlier in the interview, Oprah had asked her if she was "silent or silenced", to which Meghan confirmed the latter.

On social media, the comparison Meghan drew with her life and that of the lead Disney character has drawn emotional responses. But critics are slamming it. During the episode of last week's 'Pod Save the Queen', hosted by Ann Gripper, Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers did not mince his words. "I mean, come on. It was all fairly serious up to that point, but that was bordering on the ludicrous."

Gripper noted a reference from the interview when Meghan said she loves "to rescue" chicken and pointed out that it could mean the duchess hinting that she had rescued Harry from the royal family, a place where he said he felt "trapped".

(L-R) Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Queen Elizabeth II, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge watch the RAF flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, as members of the Royal Family attend events to mark the centenary of the RAF on July 10, 2018 in London, England.

"I think it's interesting that kind of - who is the rescuer and who is the rescuee?" the podcast host said. "There was a really tiny moment when they were out in the chicken barn when Meghan was just like, ‘I love to rescue’. And you’re like, she thinks that she has rescued Prince Harry and Prince Harry equally feels like he has rescued her and their family and taken them to America for their new life."

During the interview, Meghan had explained how she felt silenced by the royal family. "I've always valued independence," she said. "I've always been outspoken, especially about women's rights. I mean, that's the sad irony of the last four years, is I've advocated for so long for women to use their voice, and then I was silent." She continued, "Everyone in my world was given very clear directive from the moment the world knew Harry and I were dating, to always say, 'No comment.' That's my friends, my mom and dad."
