SOUTH PARK ROYALTY: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to make Met Gala debut this year amidst furore
SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA: After stepping down from royalty in 2021, it appears Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have finally paved their way into Hollywood's elite list of celebrities. The couple, who decided to move to the States three years ago, has officially been invited to the exclusive Met Gala event this year, as per a report. The invitation to the biggest Hollywood night comes after Prince Harry became a best-selling author following the release of his bombshell memoir 'Spare.'
Each year the annual event, which is organized by the New York Metropolitan Museum, comes up with a theme that every celebrity in attendance has to honor. The 2023 Met Gala theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty which means that the Hollywood A-listers have to pay tribute to fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld with their apparel. All in all, Harry and Meghan are certainly among the highest circles of celebrities after the invitation, according to Marca. However, the couple is not the first royal to attend the exclusive event as the late Princess Diana of Wales attended the Met gala in 1996. Moreover, Harry's cousin Princess Beatrice was also among the many famous socialites to be invited to the 2018 event.

Why Markle and Harry did not attend the 2022 Met Gala?
Meghan and Harry, who left the UK in 2020, were reserved about what events they attend while starting off their new life in California. The couple has refused to attend any awards shows including the Oscars or its Vanity Fair after-party. Moreover, they were also not seen in attendance at the 2022 Met Gala. It is, however, unclear why the pair skipped the event night. While many speculate that they were not invited, it is notable that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would have required more security than a typical celeb, as per Elle.
'Global laughing stock'
Netizens do not believe that Markle and Harry were invited to the Met Gala after becoming a "global laughing stock." A Twitter user said, "They say this ever year." Another user claimed that the couple had bought the exclusive invitation and tweeted, "How much do you suppose they donated for that invitation? I’m guessing a minimum of $10mil." Another tweeted, "I don’t believe this pr rubbish, every time that the two of them get trashed then she tries to push such a puff pr stunt There’s no way that they’d be invited now that they’re a global laughing stock." A user claimed it to be a PR stunt and wrote, "No I don't believe it. More like the Harkle's doing their usual predictable PR." Another tweet hilariously mocked the couple by saying, "Will the Harkles be attending Met Gala in their "South Park" persona?" A tweet read, "Uh huh, sure. Like the last Met Gala, Beckham wedding, Obama party, and everything else they were going to but never got invited."
