'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3: Iris's loyalties may not be as clear-cut as they seem
Contains spoilers for 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3
KINGSTOWN, MICHIGAN: 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 is ramping up the intensity with each episode, and the looming threat of betrayal is casting a shadow over Mike McLusky's (Jeremy Renner) efforts to maintain peace and order in Kingstown.
It seems Mike's enemies are becoming more strategic in their approach to taking him down. Episode 6 escalates tensions to a boiling point with pivotal events that disrupt the town's already precarious balance.
The episode is marked by the shocking death of Rhonda (Nona Parker Johnson) and a high-stakes police raid on Konstantin's (Yorick van Wageningen) place, yet the core issue seems to revolve around Iris (Emma Laird) and her increasingly problematic role.
Will Iris betray Mike McLusky?
In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 3 Episode 6, Mike warns Iris to leave Konstantin's place due to an impending police raid. Despite the warning, Iris chooses to stay.
When the police arrive to arrest Konstantin, Iris actively interferes, complicating the raid. Her actions could be interpreted as an attempt to protect Konstantin.
Later, when Mike meets her at the police station, she explains that she couldn't leave because Konstantin would have grown suspicious if she had taken a lunch break during the raid.
However, it seems that Iris is unable to betray Konstantin or abandon him, given their shared history. Konstantin has treated Iris well, and it's crucial to note that he was the one who named her Iris, underscoring a significant bond between them.
This connection suggests that Konstantin has played a significant role in her life, making it unlikely that she would easily abandon him, especially during a crisis.
It appears that Iris may be trying to prevent Mike from feeling uneasy about her true motives for staying, hence her explanation to him could be an effort to avoid making him uncomfortable.
Though Iris appears to like Mike, it's important to remember her past with Konstantin. They were friends, and the way they kissed suggests their relationship is much deeper.
In 'Mayor of Kingstown' Season 2, Iris betrayed Mike for Milo Sunter (Aidan Gillen), only to face the consequences later on, and Season 3 seems to be no different.
Iris may be tempted to betray Mike once again due to the care and affection Konstantin shows her. Unlike Mike, who has never made a romantic gesture like attempting to kiss her, Konstantin's actions could sway Iris to act against Mike.
Can Konstantin take down Mike McLusky?
If Iris betrays Mike, it seems likely that Konstantin could take him down. Mike's efforts to combat the drug crisis in Kingstown have been complicated by Konstantin's alliance with the Aryan Brotherhood.
Konstantin is determined to thwart Mike by any means necessary, and following the police raid, he's likely to retaliate against Mike.
Merle Callahan (Richard Brake), who was put in ad seg at Mike's request, could also collaborate with Konstantin in their efforts to bring Mike down.
Though their main target has always been on Bunny to gain control over most of the drug trade in Kingstown, Mike's persistent actions have positioned him as their enemy as well. It's also worth noting how Mike always helps Bunny, which must have angered them further.
Bunny and Mike must collaborate if they intend to defeat Konstantin and Merle. If they delay action now, it could prove too late. It will be intriguing to see how Iris's actions will change the game.
