LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has reportedly decided to quit his bizarre habit of kissing fans on stage “out of respect” for Taylor Swift. The news comes amid rumors of the pair dating following Swift’s recent split with longtime boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. A resurfaced TikTok video from a concert in January showed Healy telling the audience that he would ditch his controversial tradition for Swift, before calling the latter to join him on stage.

"I’m not kissing anybody in front of Taylor Swift, have some respect. In front of the Queen, it's not happening,” Healy could be heard saying before making a salute. The singer could then be seen bringing out Swift on stage. Shortly after, the latter is seen asking Healy, “Is it alright if I sing?”, before playing her hit ‘Anti-Hero’ and performing a cover of The 1975’s song ‘The City’ from their self-titled debut album.

Matty Healy was seen kissing fans during concerts on multiple occasions

Back in December 2022, Healy made the news for kissing a fan during a concert. The 1975 frontman reportedly noticed a sign made by a female fan requesting the singer to be her “first kiss.” In clips shared on social media, Healy could be seen checking the fan’s ID to see if she was of legal age before jumping down from the stage and kissing the girl.

The woman reportedly presented her ID to the security guard to prove she was 22 years old after Healy said, “You better not be f***ing 16.” Shortly after the age verification, Healy could be seen saying, “Are you ready? Are you ready for your first kiss?” before grabbing the fan’s face and giving her two kisses.

In another instance, Healy was spotted sucking on a female fan’s thumb during a January concert. “Matty Healy just sucked my thumb good night,” the fan reportedly tweeted at the time. He also french kissed another fan from the same concert, who also shared the moment on social media writing, “So Matty Healy just french kissed me.”

Months after Healy said he would quit the tradition of kissing random fans during concert "out of respect" for Swift, rumors of the duo allegedly dating are making the rounds online. Some recent reports alleged that the duo is “madly in love and ready to go public,” according to the Daily Mail. The pair, who first met in 2014, is reportedly preparing to go public with their romance during Swift’s concert in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, May 4, as per The Sun.

“She and Matty are madly in love. It’s super-early days, but it feels right. They first dated, very briefly, almost ten years ago but timings just didn’t work out,” an inside source told the publication. “Taylor and Joe actually split up back in February, so there was absolutely no crossover. Both Matty and Taylor have been touring over the past few weeks, so it’s been a lot of Face-Timing and texting but she cannot wait to see him again,” the source added.
