Matthew McConaughey SLAMMED after calling hometown school massacre an 'epidemic we can control'

McConaughey’s post came after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos killed 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde

Hours after Hollywood biggie Matthew McConaughey got flooded with requests to come and visit his hometown post a deadly massacre in Uvalde, Texas, the Oscar-winning actor took to his social media accounts to share a detailed post in wake of the tragedy. The award-winning star expressed his concern over failing to be responsible.
 
McConaughey’s detailed post on Twitter and Instagram comes after an 18-year-old shooter named Salvador Ramos killed 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. He opened fire with two assault rifles around 11:32 am on Tuesday, May 24. It has been reported that Salvador first fired shots at his grandmother. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other prolific figures too condemned the massacre.

‘It's time we re-evaluate’

Taking to his socials, Matthew McConaughey addressed the tragedy with a heartfelt statement. “As all of you are aware, there was another mass shooting today, this time in my hometown of Uvalde, Texas. Once again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us," said the actor adding, “The true call to action is now for every American to take a longer and deeper look in the mirror and ask ourselves, 'What is it that we truly value? How do we repair the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually take today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state, and neighborhood tomorrow?' We cannot exhale once again, make excuses and accept these tragic realities as the status quo."
 
The 52-year-old actor continued, “As Americans, Texans, mothers and fathers, it's time we re-evaluate, and renegotiate our wants from our needs," further insisting, “We have to rearrange our values and find a common ground above this devastating American reality that has tragically become our children's issue." He shared, “This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we stand on, we all know we can do better. We must do better. Action must be taken so that no parent has to experience what the parents in Uvalde and the others before them have endured."
 
The actor concluded, “And to those who dropped off their loved ones today not knowing it was goodbye, no words can comprehend or heal your loss, but if prayers can provide comfort, we will keep them coming.” For the unversed, at least another 15 kids, two adults and two officers who responded to the shooting were injured during the mayhem. 14 kids and one adult with minor injuries were taken to Uvalde Medical Center.  

‘5 of the same paragraphs I’ve read for 10 years’

Social media users were quick to react to his lengthy statement as one of the users said, “So f**king not enough. 5 of the same paragraphs I’ve read for 10 years of this sh**.” Another shared, “Guns needs to be absolutely prohibited in the USA...that's the only solution.” One posted, “Did a gun pull the trigger? Did a gun aim itself? Guns aren’t the problem, it’s mental health. And lack of funding at schools.

The next one shared, “I still can’t believe it’s 2022 and people are still scared to say that GUNS are the problem…  my gosh.” Meanwhile, an individual tweeted, “Please do something!!  You have a platform.  You are respected by many on both sides.  Please use it for good!  I don’t care if it’s guns.  I don’t care if it’s mental health.  I want both!  We must push our leaders (on both sides) to get something done!” And, one concluded, “That’s a whole lot of nothing.”
