Matthew McConaughey was ‘molested’ as a teenager and ‘blackmailed’ into losing his virginity at 15
Matthew McConaughey has revealed some of the darkest memories from his past in his latest book, saying he was molested as a teenager and "blackmailed" into losing his virginity at age 15. The 50-year-old Oscar winner poured his heart out in his new memoir 'Greenlights', revealing how he was sexually assaulted by a man after being "knocked unconscious" in the back of a van, The Sun reported.
“I was blackmailed into having sex for the first time when I was 15. I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex," Matthew wrote. "Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case."
The Interstellar star added, "I was molested by a man when I was 18 while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.” But despite the trauma, McConaughey insisted that he "never felt like a victim. I have a lot of proof that the world is conspiring to make me happy.”
This is the actor's first time talking publicly about the ordeal. In 2016, the 'Dallas Buyers' Club' star supported the University Of Texas' "Rape Elimination Program" to help shuttle students home from campus safely after dark. Matthew, who has three children with model Camila Alves, was photographed in a golf cart giving people a ride home as he raised awareness for steps to prevent sexual assault.
The Hollywood star, in his memoir, also revisited his parents Kay and James' turbulent marriage. According to McConaughey, Kay once broke James' nose and held a knife at him during an argument. They later had sex on the kitchen floor. In another instance, James allegedly broke Kay's middle finger.
McConaughey said his parents were married three times and divorced twice. When Kay was in the hospital giving birth to Matthew, James went drinking at a bar because he didn't think the baby was his.
"The love was real. The passion was real," Matthew told The New York Times of his parent's fiery romance. "This is the reality, but there’s humanity in that reality."
The critically acclaimed actor added that his father was tough on him and his three older brothers. However, he admitted that he'd learned invaluable lessons owing to James' strict nature. “I wouldn’t give back one a*s-whupping I got for the values that are ingrained in me," Matthew told the paper.
What's more? James reportedly died of a heart attack while having sex with Kay in 1992.
Kay, who read Greenlights, admitted to the Times that she wished the book had more of the "affection" she and her husband shared.
"It was a rocky and passionate love affair we had, but I do wish Matthew would have told more of the stories about me and his dad’s love, affection, and commitment to each other," she explained. However, she said she still regarded her youngest son as a fundamentally forthright individual. “What has remained consistent in Matthew’s life is his honesty and being true to himself, knowing who he was and owning it," she added.
Matthew shot to fame after starring in the coming-of-age comedy 'Dazed And Confused'. He married Camila Alves in 2012, and the couple have three children together: sons Levi, 12, Livingstone, 7, and daughter Vida, 10.
