'MasterChef: Generations' contestant Sunshine sparks concern as she takes risk to cook Lamb Shank in 60 minutes
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'MasterChef: Generations' Season 14 finally wrapped up auditions and moved to the actual competition, the mystery box challenge. The contestants were tasked to prepare a dish that reminded them of childhood that could be served in a restaurant in 60 minutes and Sunshine chose to cook Lamb Shank.
The dish was close to Sunshine as she used to enjoy the meal with her family. However, the Fox show contestant revealed that Lamb Shank normally takes around five to six hours to cook but she had only an hour. Sunshine took the risk to prepare the dish in 60 minutes in a pressure cooker.
The Fox show judges, Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez, and Joe Bastianich were quite concerned about the dish's tenderness. However, Sunshine notably prepared Braised Lamb Shank with Creamy Mashed Potato, Roasted Carrots, and Trumpet Mushrooms in time without any blunder and presented to the judges.
Did Sunshine move to the next round?
'MasterChef: Generations' Season 14 contestant Sunshine was saved from the elimination and moved to the next challenge. The contestant's dish impressed the judges and they loved its taste. Gordon Ramsay complimented the "rustic" and "charming" look of the dish
He also said, "Lamb's delicious. I'm just glad you left that lamb shank in that pressure cooker for that length of time 'cause you've got all that flavor and that marrow coming from the bone... delicious." Meanwhile, Joe Bastianich loved the flavor and noted, "The flavor of the lamb is amazing because it's rich and profound. I taste the braise. I taste the crust really an excellent dish."
Aarón Sánchez was impressed with the delicious dish prepared in a limited time. He also complimented, "For me, the sauce is really where the magic lies. To get that profoundness in such an abbreviated time is pretty impressive."
Sunshine wins 'MasterChef: Generations' audition with zero waste technique
'MasterChef: Generations' Season 14 contestant Sunshine has been committed to sustainable cooking. She believes in the 'zero waste technique' and uses every part of an animal in her dish. During the audition, she served Pan-Seared Halibut with Summer Succotash and Creamy Polenta.
The dish was visually "popping" and Aarón Sánchez called it simplistic, yet complex. Christine Ha dubbed the dish "well-balanced" and a “celebration of corn." Meanwhile, Gordon Ramsay criticized the halibut for its dryness, but he loved the succotash. Joe Bastianich thought the dish was awesome.
