'The Bachelorette': Martin Gelbspan takes to Instagram to justify his behavior

While Michelle Young asked him to leave due to the remarks he made about her, Martin Gelbspan poured out his version of the story online

Each season of 'The Bachelorette' has its fair share of villains, it's part and parcel of the franchise. And while Michelle's season has had a fair share of great men, it has also had a considerable amount of men who took on the role of being the villain.

It began with Ryan Fox, then it was Jamie Skaar and finally Chris Sutton. And while that seemed to be the last of it, it turns out, Martin Gelbspan was lurking in the shadows. While fans pointed out that his friendship with Jamie and Chris seemed problematic, it wasn't enough to raise alarms. However, Martin's words proved to be a serious cause for concern.

While Martin took pride in being blatantly honest, he clearly said one thing to Michelle and another behind her back. While he claimed that he saw her as a strong, confident woman, to the men, he proclaimed that her poem made it seem like she was insecure and immature and still had to deal with her issues. Olu informed Michelle about the discrepancies in his stories as he saw it as an issue. Michelle confronted Martin about it, who denied the situation. However, his constant taking over her was enough reason for Michelle to ask Martin to leave, as his behavior made her put up her walls again. Martin left, but was clearly annoyed and even announced that he "wouldn't even care to give her a shot" and that a woman like her didn't deserve his time.

Fans wasted no time calling him out on his behavior and statements. "Martin is 1000% the type of guy to hit on a girl and when she turns him down immediately insult her and say shit like “well I wouldn’t date you anyways”. The trash took itself out #TheBachelorette" tweeted a fan. "Why do men think that just because they have abs, that makes them automatically good looking and the best catch? Martin can have the best abs in the world and it doesn’t change the fact that he is freaking ugly and a jerk. #TheBachelorette" added another. "Martin, a grown man who bleaches his hair, calling Michelle immature… #TheBachelorette #TheBachelor" joked a fan.

But looks like Martin certainly had a lot more on his mind, as he took to his own Instagram to address the issue. With a photo of himself, he wrote, "Get to know me first. Hi. My name is Martin. You may have seen me on The Bachelorette, but only parts of me that made sense for the show. I'm not perfect, but neither are you. I have insecurities, but so do you. I've made mistakes, but guess what, you have too. The ultimate meaning of life is growth. We can't grow without experiences, whether positive or negative ones. Actually, specially without the negative ones."
He also added, "So I encourage you, when someone is trying to grow, allow them to do so … don't put them down. Life is about uplifting those around you, not to kick them down while they're already down. The world needs more love and if you're not ready to spread it, take the time to find it within yourself; we tend to enjoy life more that way."

"Remember - you only get a glimpse of our personality. It's very selective. Mostly not accurate. Almost never accurate. Take that as you want. Perspective is king. PS I don't pretend or hope for everyone to like me, I'm not @rodneymathews02 😂. However, remember that you've only seen an accumulation of MAYBE 30 minutes of me on an edited show. Take a step back. Ask yourself, why am I feeling this way? This world needs more love and understanding." he added.

Unfortunately, fans didn't seem to care for his statement either. "Damn… Martin must have thought this was gonna go way better when he was Vistaprinting that muscle tee #TheBachelorette #TheBachelor" wrote a fan. "Didn’t think Martin’s post could be shittier and then he threw shade at Rodney. #TheBachelorette " argued another.
